Except the right-wingnuts are filled with hate and bigotry.

but yeah, sure, CNN...the far left and far right are "equally insane."

This may be the greatest television invention since Technicolor. It's too bad they'll run out of prominent Lefties loooong before they finish with the Right.

There's also the possibility that Bachmann will win so many times that they will have to retire her and name the Hall of Shame after her.

"Aaaand this weeks 'Wingnuts' are the prominent US senator from Michigan Michelle Bachmann (R) and the Vice President of the Save the Owls campaign, Franklin Peterson.

Bachmann, who this week was recorded giving a speech at a rally for the Francis A. Schaeffer Foundation where she stated, quote "Habbayee nay-ai' anna sheeloi nach'hamma scheba'doicha" while raising two snakes above her head, claimed that she was unaware the organization had deep ties to the Dominionist movement, or even Christianity.

Peterson was caught on film by a game hunter and avid photographer, personally feeding a group of endangered spotted owls while naked in a tree."

I am just waiting for when her and Bachmann cross paths and have a crazy-off. You could sell tickets to that and pay off the national debt.

Ten minutes of unintelligible shrieking, followed by a hair-pulling catfight, followed by stomach-turning lesbian scissoring, followed by another hair-pulling catfight?

So...We have a sitting GOP Congresswoman, who just one re-election, has the support of her party, and is one of the more recognizable figures in the party, being a complete idiot multiple times this week vs. a former Congresswoman, who was tossed to the side by the left for being a complete nutjob and quit the party, spewing sour grapes because left-wing organizations don't want to hire her.

The false equivalency is strong in this one.

This is part of how CNN is branding itself as an unbiased moderate news channel compared with the lefty msnbc and the right fox. It's all crap though, they are all conservative news channels because they're corporate owned media organizations that receive better profit opportunity under a republican administration than a democratic one.

As more people call themselves independent as they jump the republican ship, CNN will be there to hold their head with segments like this where nutjob republicans outweigh nutjob democrats, it skews the average. It's a stepping stone attempt at giving recovering republicans still some of their FOX news style world view in a tidy sound bite by comparing the worst of the republican wackjobs with normal people.

the balance is really off in elected officials, so...that might get kinda hard to keep up with, but there's no end of people saying stupid shiat on any topic.

it might get silly comparing 'head of the RNC' with 'washed up actor/actress', but it sorta seems like silly is part of the point.

Yeah. Won't most of the Right Wingnuts be Fox media employees, actual GOP politicians, etc. and most of the Left Wingnuts be flaky indignant activists and artists of no particular importance?

Much of the Right seems to revere their wingnuts and rally behind them, the Left seems to just pat theirs on the head and say "Good job protesting and feeling indignant, here's a cookie."

The far right and the far left are surprisingly similar. Equivalent is a poor choice in words, but both groups are not unlike each other.

That said, it's a trainwreck waiting to happen, and people like trainwrecks.

They'll run out of leftwing nuts with power and/or an audience long before they run out of rightwing nuts with the same merely because America is a very right wing country but they will never run out of either type of nut because America is also a very large country.

If someone's an idiot, call them on it. Its not "balanced" to call someone an idiot, then deliberately look for someone from their ostensible political opposition who has done something stupid and hold them up at the same time.

This is only a minor gripe for an otherwise great idea: I thought crazies on the right were called wingnuts and crazies on the left were called moonbats? Or is that something that pretty much only exists in the blogosphere?

Uh, hello - this is the only way this segment could work.

Obviously CNN is starting from a false premise, ergo that "both sides are equally as crazy". This is demonstratively not true. Hell, it doesn't even pass the sniff test, the gut check, the bullshiat detector - whatever you want to call it.

If they really wanted to be "fair and balanced" about it, they would simply let a representative from each side pick the other sides "wingnut" for that week. Heck, they probably tossed that idea around when this segment was in development but had to shiat can it because it obviously wouldn't be "fair" to the Republicans.

"Fair" is a funny word to the media. It's right up there with "impartial" which is evidently journalist-ese for "parroting bullshiat with your head up your ass".

And they wonder why they have no credibility with the public anymore...

bubbaprog: This. The far left is as crazy as the far right, but Democrats kick the crazy people out of their party, while the Republicans elevate them to leadership.

There's also the fact that the GOP is steadily losing popularity, and they are telling themselves this is because they are not crazy enough.
