The first part of what you said is definitely admirable, especially the fact that "she has generously given of her time and money to help poor, rural communities like the one she came from."

However, honorary degrees are by definition unearned, and most recipients do not normally adopt the title of "Doctor".

Often times schools have been accused of granting honorary degrees in exchange for large donations.
