(Reuters) Amusing Tori Amos says her latest CD was inspired by world financial crisis. Who among us has not banged on a piano keyboard caterwauling to legions of aging emos while considering their 401(k)?   (reuters.com) divider line 59

I'll probably buy the special edition. I still like Tori. Sometimes you just need completely incomprehensible lyrics to get through the day.

Same anguished voice over keyboard arpeggios, etc.

"The world has changed completely, it seems, in the past two years. The world that we all knew before, could wake up in feeling safe, ... now it seems that everything has been turned upside down," Amos told Reuters in an interview.

what planet has this woman been living on anyway? we've NEVER been 'safe'. we have always been 3 days from food riots in times square. just 3 days of disruption and the food runs out.

sleep well, song lady!

Friend of mine worked a show of hers a few years back. Said she was one of the biggest divas he had ever seen. Wouldn't leave the dressing room unless the path to the stage was clear of people, required an actual red carpet to be laid from her dressing room to her piano on stage, and actually had a set requirement of incense sticks to be lit. She had so many people were choking in the hallways. She also acted like a stuck up biatch to everyone around her (assistants, roadies, security). He said he lost all respect for her after that show.

Yeah, once I read someone describe an alt-country artist as "emo," I knew for certain that the concept had been f*cking blown to peices. Country is supposed to be sad. Alt Country is required to be. That ain't emo, it's life.

I dated a girl who loved Tori and also loved Ani DiFranco, to the point that not only did she own every album by both, but was collecting live shows from both as well.

She was hot, and great in the sack, but as you might have already guessed, she was completely insane.

magical_mystery_meat 2009-05-08 05:35:39 PM
I like her piano playing, and her vocal lines are good exercises to transcribe to lead guitar to expand your phrasing, but yeah, her music gets a bit old

andreirublev 2009-05-08 05:37:40 PM
I sorta-kinda link her music, but dear lord, her super-fanatic fans are so god-awful obnoxious.

I went to a miserable show at this year's SXSW. For starters, the venue was terrible; the ground sloped backwards, so you couldn't see shiat. I could barely see the opener, who was standing, so I knew I was in for trouble for Tori sitting at a piano. I was correct.

Also, side note, standing while tilted on your heels is incredibly uncomfortable.

Tori's set included the unbearable annoyance of the couple in front of me that had some kind of hand-jive-and-clap thing worked out for literally every song. But the worst, WORST part was they couldn't clap on the goddamn beat. Just totally the wrong number of claps per measure. It was SO distracting I wanted to strangle them.

She had so many people were choking in the hallways. She also acted like a stuck up biatch to everyone around her (assistants, roadies, security). He said he lost all respect for her after that show.

One of my best friends worked as the assistant head chef of a Radisson Hotel at which she once stayed during the "Earthquakes" era. He told me she had a nigh-unbearable list of demands as to what she was to be served and when she was to be served it. And was exceedingly particular as to the condition of both the food she was served (she apparently sent one order back like 8 or nine times before it was to her liking) and her environs (she had to have the air temperature just so and woe be unto anybody who smoked around her [and she was a smoker at the time].) She reportedly (according to him) was nothing but antagonistic diva-ness personified to everyone but for young, female fans. She'd give them all the time in the world. If you had a Y chromosome and or were over 30, she didn't want to know you.

And he was the antithesis of an alpha-male misogynist tall-tale-telling type, thus lending his communications re:Tori credence.

/i can take or leave her music myself.

Used to be a huge Tori fan, but her music has declined IMHO since Choirgirl. I'd never heard anything about her being a pain to deal with, so it kinda comes as a surprise. But I'll agree with anyone who says a majority of her fans are batshiat insane. ;) Still gonna buy the new album though. If it has two good songs on it, it's worth it to me.

A black shirt?!? Since when did black become an emo color? I get that individual "emo" children may be spotted wearing such attire, but when did Black stop being associated with generally dangerous and cool characters/shiat?
