I'm not really a fan of NIN, but Reznor makes a hell of a lot of sense.

he felt them on the inside...

More realistic headline: Apple gets shiat ton of free publicity for their app store and the NIN app.

Apparently Trent was unsatisfied with Apple and moved on to TG Daily.

The original biatch session Trent wrote read more like someone complaining about the size of the cock he was hungrily scarfing down. Whole thing reminds me of Bill Hicks' Suck Satan's Cock bit.

Reznor's a huge Apple booster. I'm not surprised he was pissed that his favorite company rejected his product.

CentralValleyCali 2009-05-08 10:46:38 AM
Aw, the poor little baby. It's about time someone gave him his bottle so he would shut up and move on.

Seriously, Apple should just pull everything off that he has on there for crying so much. It's like the guy had nothing better to do but biatch and moan while Apple reviewed his claims.

In reality, it's not his Apple iTunes. If they don't want him, big deal, move on. He's lucky they decided to feed him.

social benthos 2009-05-08 10:48:09 AM
Why do I imagine it went something like this?

Reznor: You changed man. You used to be cool.
Apple: No man, I'm still cool.
Reznor: No man, it used to be about the music.
*Apple throws a JD bottle at the wall and passes out.*

Yeah, what a dick he is for trying to do something cool for his fans. Why can't he be like more rock stars and just let his corporate overloads tell him what to do and say?

FTFA: "The Downward Spiral" (the album) is not available anywhere in the iPhone app. The song 'The Downward Spiral' I believe is in a podcast that can be streamed to the app. Thanks Apple for the clear description of the problem - as in, what do you want us to change to get past your stupid f****** standards?" Reznor wrote in an official forum post on May 3. "You can buy The Downward Spiral on iTunes, but you can't allow an iPhone app that may have a song with a bad word somewhere in it. Come on Apple, think your policies through and for f***'s sake get your app approval scenario together."

They sell his music on iTunes, but it's too foul-languaged for the iPhone? I see his point, and good for him. Reznor's always looked out for his fans, and does so again.

People like Reznor and others who are slightly ahead of the curve on being creative have found a home in the heart of apple, a company who like google, presents itself as a refreshing alternative to the rest of the boring, out of touch, "lets see the numbers" corporations. Now, imagine if that home, a sort of subculture you were in, decided to behave just like all of the others that made you shift over away from in the first place.

I remember a few years back I was trying to buy tickets for a NIN show. they sold out almost immediately, but Trent had reserved a few hundred exclusive seats to auction off for charity. I spent $150 on a pair of tickets (face value would have been around $100) where all proceeds went to charity... that was pretty awesome.

Ok, I'm going to assume you know very little about the whole thing.
He's going out on a world tour. He's without a label. He spent about 100,000 out of the NIN piggy bank to make this app.
The app has a streamlined access to nin.com, makes music available, and has a user search to see who else nearby is running it. You know, for chat hookups and emo booty calls.

It was already running, and there was a bug to fix. International users couldn't use the "find me" thingy. So, they wrote more code to fix it. Submitted it to Apple.
Then it got rejected for "objectionable content". Specifically, a song about suicide.
The babyshaker incident made them pull a Tipper Gore.
It was all the same already-approved content.
And it was about a week before tour.
He's controlling the flow of his own publicity, and looking for new marketing strategies.
What is wrong with that?

Apple is big. The products they put out are far removed from the mess that is iPhone app approval.
And Apple has lots of love for TR.

Just say you hate NIN and all of us fans. We get it. You hate us.
Good for you.

I'll personally be happier when Trent devotes all the time he currently spends on viral marketing to making an album as good as The Fragile.

The irony here is that someone's on FARK trying to make Apple look bad for having a limit on too many F-bombs, and yet subby misses the fact that his headline contains the word "fark" instead of the proper F-bomb.

So FARK is even worse than Apple, right?

Well, you wouldn't play NiN at work (generally speaking) and Fark is supposed to be work safe. There's kind of a difference. Just sayin'.

Speaking of F-bombs... one of my favorite Counter-Strike times was on a Christian server. This was when most pubs were filled w/wall hackers, aimbots, speedhacks etc.

You could shoot, stab & blow up people. But any "bad words" or pr0n spray got ya kicked or banned.

"However, version 1.0.3 of "NIN: Access" remains unaltered despite the company's concerns. "

Well that's a flat out lie right there. Talking with the devs of this app update, the song The Downward Spiral was removed from the streaming playlist and re-submitted.

The only thing I have to disagree with in the whole article is the Wal-Mart comment made at the end. I read about Nirvana censoring their music, and it wasn't "just to make more money". Kurt mentioned that in the town he grew up in, the closest place to buy music was Wal-Mart. The closest for unedited music was an hour or so away, to far for a younger person.

He knew that alot of towns, mine included, don't have places for people to pick up new music, but they have Wal-Mart. So, yeah, I think that made sense.

Besides the only things Nirvana had to edit was "Rape Me" (Waife Me?) and the back cover for In Utero....oh, and the sticker on the baby.

Great, now we can hear Trent's awful voice on iPhones!

Great composer.
Decent, if whiny lyricist.
Horrible singer.

Many of the apps are just on screen bookmarks to sites you could just go to on safari anyway. Some apps are great, like Shazam, but the majority of them are just website redirects.

Have not really played with the NIN one. Anyone know what is usefull about it?

I have this app...It crashes every time I try to stream from "The Fragile."

Which I guess makes sense, in a way.
