$500 shoes on a man: ghey.

Ummm...the difference, subby, is that the Obama campaign wasn't the one trying to claim that they were humble pie/"just folks" or whatever.

McCain is the one who started with all the "elitist celebrity" crap about Obama. He simply pointed out that McCain's pot was blacker than Obama's kettle (or whatever).

The fact is, *no one* makes it to that level of power/success without having a few bucks in the bank. Even Joe "Amtrak" Biden was bringing in a quarter-million per year before making it to VP.

or you could read the article:

During the campaign season, President Obama sneered at McCain's houses. "John McCain has seven homes. There's just a fundamental gap of understanding between John McCain's world and what people are going through every single day here in America," Barack the Ordinary Guy scoffed. "You don't have to be a Nobel Prize-laureate economist, you just have to have a little bit of a sense of what ordinary people are going through to understand that we can't afford eight more years or four more years or one more year of the failed economic policies that George Bush has put in place."

What's your point, exactly? I fail to see how what Obama said isn't valid, or even applies to this article.

...and? The Obamas never once claimed they were ordinary folk. They're both multi-millionaires, and everyone knows it. The story between Obama and McCain there was that McCain was saying he knew what the ordinary Joe was going through, but couldn't remember how many houses he and his wife owned.

I think that between Obama and McCain, only one of them can really make the claim that they know what it's like to grow up without the comforts of money.

Plus, I really like how you're equating what the media writes with the position of the Obamas.

Oh, and to add fuel for the fire, my most expensive shoes have been $109 running shoes. All my running shoes end up becoming everyday shoes when I'm done running with them, because f*ck if I'm going to drop $100 for a pair of shoes I wear for three months and then toss.

40below [TotalFark] 2009-05-03 08:28:04 PM
I wear $80 Wellco desert combat boots every day. Most comfortable things in existence, go perfectly with khakis and can be touched up with a stiff brush.

I love how republicans argue so vehemently for capitalism, but when they see the Obama's spend their paycheck as they see fit, they freak out.

Hell, Obama makes more than most Americans on book royalties alone, so it isn't even taxpayer money.

Sometimes I'm impressed at how well spoken and "cut to the crux of the argument" you Farkers can be. People like who I quoted are why I'm thiiiiiiis close to becoming a TFer.

Well, don't get too excited. The ratio is usually something like 2-3 post with a clue vs. 300 rote regurgitating partisan talking points.

There's nothing wrong in having a nice pair of shoes. Spending hundreds of dollars on Prada or Gucci clothes seems ridiculous but every man should own a nice pair of shoes.

Thank you.

I've never paid that much for shoes. I mean I'm not a shoes person, though there are some awesome boots from The Rock I'd love to own someday. On the other hand I recently shelled out over two hundred bucks for a set of scuba fins, so to each their own.

/and even the The Rock boots only cost like three hundred

Michelle Obama? Half of her wardrobe is from J Jill, at least as I've gathered from (entirely pointless) news stories. J Jill certainly is pricier than Target brands, but she's the wife of the most powerful man in the world, and she buys clothes off the rack.

Yet she gets shiat for one expensive pair of sneakers. Where do you even begin with this?

beve [TotalFark] 2009-05-03 09:53:11 PM
"Let's put aside the fact that many of the same Wall Street moneymen that engineered the corporate bailouts are now in charge of steering the same big government policies that Bush put in place."

I thought the Republican party was all about small government?
