With all of the "Let them have sex. No God so just have no boundaries." Which is the public attitude is today.

I don't blame them. Matter of fact, burn their clothes, sanitize their bodies, and quarantine them until cleared via blood test.

"God" don't mean what it used to. However, the Bible is still a guideline to a happy life IMHO.

If your kids had guidelines, we'd not have teenage pregnancy, gangs, or dope in the schools.

again. Parents fail, let the children suffer.

Mr. Nigma, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

You know, that's where most of our infections have come from... kids going to Mexico and bringing the shiat back and spreading it at school before anyone even realizes they're sick.

My sister and her hubby just got back from Cancun yesterday and her hubby can't go to work for a week. They're paying him, thank heavens, but I agree. Neither of them should be circulating till it's clear they don't have it. My sister telecommutes so she will still be able to work.

Speaking from a highly infected region of Texas, I think it's smart and the lady biatching about her kids being denied a public education is a moronic asshat. It's a prudent precaution, not a scaremongering tactic. It's not like they closed down the school for it.

This is re-Goddamn-diculous. The local news is telling people not to go to the ER if they can help it. I bet more people will die by not going to the ER when they need to than will die of this thing.

wademh: why is this such a bad idea? You know, like actually spell it out in full please.

Because even if you traveled to Mexico the odds of both having been exposed and contracting the disease are small. The actual confirmed cases in Mexico is just over 500, and confirmed deaths are actually at 19. It seems the vast majority of the reported cases were nothing more than the normal illnesses that are present in the country.

Moreover, if taking extreme precautions, as in this case, works as expected and the pandemic is largely contained, morons will complain that everyone overreacted. If greatly reducing how many get the flu winds up meaning that more virulent strains do not arise, people will moan that it was not such a bad flu. Success will mean idiots thought we overreacted. So judging by fark, things are going well.

The number of confirmed cases is of course hugely under reported if you know anything about health care in Mexico. You are infectious before you feel sick. It is hard on Mom and Dad as they are back from a vacation, probably have lots of work to catch up on, and have to arrange day care. But it is a reasonable precaution. Note that US confirmed cases have more than doubled in the last 2 days.

The Great Influenza by John Barry is a book worth reading about influenza. It focuses on the pandemic of 1918. It really educated me on why the influenza is something to be respectful of.

"The equivalent of the common cold" it is not.

phoenixreborn 2009-05-03 07:33:08 PM
Can I just point out that every "confirmed" case has to be confirmed by the CDC, who is, along with every state health department, totally overwhelmed by the labwork to be done and is seriously behind in reporting the number of cases?

Confirmed cases does not equal actual cases, people. They just can't keep up with the demand. And the Texas health department said the other day they were going to STOP testing every single suspected case because it's mostly an academic exercise anyway.

Don't take those numbers so farking literally.

Yeah, I once read the 1580 book "Leeches and Bleeding Cure Everything," and I'm outraged that we aren't just using this miracle cure on flu patients.

So stop using the numbers to back up your arguments.

We have a family at our school that recently came back from Mexico. The parents are VOLUNTARILY keeping their kids home for a week to clear them rather than sending them in and potentially infecting 400 other kids. Way to go responsible parents! (and yes, the teachers are emailing lessons so it's not like they are getting out of school). Actions like this are how a potential pandemic is shut down. Doesn't matter if this one turns out to be mild - the next one may not be.

Just another page in my proof that the "swine flu panic" was started by middle school hackers trying to end the school year six weeks early.

So far, they've 1) shut down schools from Texas to Maine, 2) gotten a kid who wore a mask sent home, 3) and now this. Why won't anyone else see the pattern? These kids are on their way to ruling the world, while everyone else bans air-kissing and kills pigs.
