How the hell did this douche think his affair wouldn't be found out? He made himself very high profile, and the right wing goes after ANY sign of impropriety in a Democrat. If you ask me, he WANTED to be caught. It would force him to break it off and he wouldn't have to keep a nasty secret anymore.

Agreed. A shame he's not a Republican, because a Democrat would totally honor the "bros before hos" code.

The Republicans have a "bros before hos" code also, but they use it to decide who to have an affair with.

Except for Kos himself, who favored Chris Dodd.

Not too much bright to go around over there.

No, we should move on. The career of a great American was destroyed and for what, having an affair while his wife was dying of terminal cancer? That's not a crime and people shouldn't judge him based on that.

Exactly. Clearly the vasts rightwing conspiracy tarnished this patroit.

I don't recall Edwards becoming the party's elder statesman positioning himself for either a 2012 run or being the leader of a splinter third party.

Not aimed at the respondent but I'm tired of this false equivalency shiat. For the most part dems vilify their shamed constituents while the repubs elevate them to sainthood. Do these simple-minded folks not remember what Oliver North did? Obama is raked over the coals for even suggesting that diplomatic talks with Iran would be acceptable, Ollie *sold weapons* to Iran.

Clearly, the shoe manufacturer made footwear they knew could cause serious injury when propelled by the foot of an angry, cheated-on spouse. Only a ten million dollar settlement can prevent others from being harmed by these deadly devices.

Normally I am not a member of the irony police. This time however, I think the use of the 'Ironic' tag is questionable at best.

As others have pointed out the above chain of events does not appear to be ironic in any way.

That is, uless you dig very deep and unearth the planks from Edwards failed '08 pesidential bid, which included.... wait for it.... campaign finance reform laws.

So is it ironic that a candidate that espoused campaign finance reform gets caught in a campaign finance issue? Well it would be if he were calling for limits on how to spend the money, but he wasn't asking for that. His proposed campaign finance reform was to create a stystem where small donations from individuals received a federal dollar match of EIGHT times the amount donated, up to a max of $800. In this system, if you donated $100 to a campaign as a private individual, your candidate would get $800 in federal matching funds.

From his website: http://johnedwards.com/issues/govt-reform/ (new window)

Edwards will create a new Grassroots Presidential Financing System to empower regular Americans in a potentially universal public financing system. It will match small donations under $100 by eight to one, making two $100 donations as valuable to a campaign as a single $1,000 donation. (Each $100 donation would receive an $800 match, making them worth $900 each. The $1,000 donation would also receive an $800 match and be worth $1,800.) Edwards will also reduce the maximum contribution from $2,300 to $1,000 per person to better reflect the incomes of most Americans and update the campaign spending limits to attract all candidates into the system.

Notice that the extent of reform was to change how the money was raised, not how it was spent.

Therefore, I award subby and the moderators a FAIL tag for classifying this as IRONIC, when ASSHAT would have been more accurate.

sgilman: Edwards is a dick. I can't believe he ran for president knowing he had all these skeletons. He would have given us president Palin.

I guess this is my biggest problem with Edwards. I don't really care about any politician's personal life(McCain, Gingrich, Clinton, Edwards) until they're talking about someone else's but risking handing the election to McCain was foolish and arrogant. A bj from an intern is one thing, daring the press to catch you cheating on your cancer-stricken wife is quite another.
