Is there anything that our foreign policy has done right in the past 50 years?

"Is there anything that our foreign policy has done right in the past 50 years?"

I guess from an anti-American point of view, September 11th.

/other than that, I can't think of anything

Karzai may be the President, but he has all the power and authority of the Mayor of Kabul.

You mean invade a British commonwealth country without even informing the British and therefore starting a massive international disaster that could lead to war with the UK and the rest of the commonwealth? Foreign policy at its best for sure.

Karzai will stay president simply for the fact that he is a joint US citizen and worked for the CIA for years. Removing him from office would ruin years of work if a member of the opposition was voted in.

That's one part of the world where I would not want to be described as divided and in disarray.

I think the mayor of Kabul acts with less "suggestions" into his day to day decisions from up high

mercator, trouble your tender heart no further as Obama continues to give us hope and promise that someday we'll have something nice to say about this despicable and criminal enterprise we call America. Like Michelle said, Obama will renew America's soul.

Hallelujah, brother!!

Actually, the destiny of the Afghans was in the hands of the Afghans.

They farked themselves over in the long-run.

And long-term it was great for Poland.

You know who else had no political opposition because of the support of an occupying invasion force that was just as unpopular as him?

Shame, Karzai is as corrupt as they come. However, I remember reading in the New York Times a few months ago that Obama wasn't such a fan. We'll see what happens I guess.

Because you are female you say this. If you were a man, you would see the thousand-yard stare of a man miserable to be head of a state that is as hostile to him as the surface of Venus; a man who will never again know peace; who is condemned to live the rest of his days in a ring of armed guards. That face doesn't get much sun because it spends most of its time shut in the most lavish prison cell in the world getting lied to and flattered by men who wish him dead.

To a man he's living proof that there are worse things than being a nobody.

I'm sure he'd be glad to hear he's a hottie tho.

Things US foreign policy has done right?

Your logon suggests you may be biased in this, but I'm not convinced propping up SK was in US interests. Oh, it was very nice for the Koreans, but it did the US no good having to maintain an army for 60 years on a piece of terrain as defensible as the far end of Fisherman's Wharf.

The "Attain Document" operations (1986) were gunboat diplomacy at its best, IMO. Thanks to that Libya has settled down.

Cutting Ukraine from Russia's herd while keeping the Euros out was clever, and it might prove to be worth the cost of alienating those parties.

Not rising to Hugo Chavez's bait is praiseworthy if we can keep it up.

Safer to have the US Army standing close behind him than, say, the US Navy. NTTAWWT.

Yeah - or maybe Ben Kingsley.
