He out-lived Bob Dole?

I'll be damned.

An amazing man. He threw for the Bills, then he threw bills to pay the bills, then he died.

That sucks. Not sure that I agree with his politics, perhaps passionately disagree, but that still sucks. On a side note, Bob Dole only smiles with the bottom of his face.

Now some may question my experience in matters of death. To this I can only say:

I know Jack Kemp

"Every time in this century we've lowered the tax rates across the board, on employment, on saving, investment and risk-taking in this economy, revenues went up, not down."

"Democracy without morality is impossible."

"Republicans many times can't get the words 'equality of opportunity' out of their mouths. Their lips do not form that way."

"Democracy is not a mathematical deduction proved once and for all time. Democracy is a just faith fervently held, commitment to be tested again and again in the fiery furnace of history."

And my personal favorite:

"Pro football gave me a good perspective. When I entered the political arena, I had already been booed, cheered, cut, sold, traded, and hung in effigy."

I once met the man. We were talking about the stars on the Capital steps after a evening session of the House in the '80s. Didn't even realize who I was talking to until he walked away.

/Still never would vote for him.

When it comes to athletes becoming politicians, he set the gold standard.

Well, that makes one of us.

I remember, back in '96 I was selling shoes at Just For Feet. There was a huge pile of Shawn Kemp Reebok's, #88's on them, in various colors. I was suggesting to customers that they could color in any part of the 88 to make them what ever number they wanted.

If not for that, I would have delivered a big "Who's Jack Kemp". All anyone remembers from that election is that Dole was campaigning on Viagra.

As is the curse of TF, I made my worthless comments in the non-greenlit thread. So I'm just gonna mash the flakes from my Ped Egg with some Midori and maybe snort it or mix it with some Sunny-D, I don't know yet.

Anyway. Rest in peace, Jack Kemp. I hated your supply-side policies, but I liked the way you liked black people.

I remember the day I got to shake his hand. I was happier to be shaking the hand of a Buffalo legend than a vp candidate. RIP Mr. Kemp.

I remember going out to my favorite hole-in-the-wall bar on election night 1996. One of the local punk bands was playing and had taped one of the campaign signs to their drum kit, modified to read "Dope/Hemp '96"

I was going to type "You sound young" but I'm 26 and I definitely remember more from that election than that. So... you sound forgetful or like someone who doesn't pay attention to things?

I totally agree. In fact, I think we should cut tax rates to zero, since that would give us infinite revenues based on past performance.
