Hands on approach of the earthquake?

You mean when he told people who lost their homes to pretend that it was just like going on a camping trip?

Yeah...

The conservative premier, in his third term in office, said opinion poll findings in his possession showed his popularity at just over 75 per cent,

Assuming "possesion" means the district he was elected from, I'm sure Obama's popularity is well above 75% in Chicago and probably Illinois.

I was on a tour of old underground passageways in Naples a couple of years ago, and I saw a bit of grafitti that looked like Berlusconi with a few nasty phrases scrawled underneath.

I asked the tour guide about it. She said, "No, that's from back when they used these tunnels as bomb shelters during The War. That's Mussolini."

"But you're right," she said, "about the resemblance." And she walked away with a wry little smirk.

/true story

My Italian friend was explaining that, basically, everyone in Italy hates Berlusconi, but they always re-elect him. What happens, according to him, is that the opposition get enough votes to make new elections happen, and then everyone just votes for Berlusconi's coalition again, because there is no real alternative.

It helps that the guy literally controls the media. It's hard to imagine how any opposition could get an equal footing in that environment.

World's most popular leader with only a 75% approval rating? Ha! Shows what he knows--Kim Jong-Il's approval ratings are consistently above 200%...except with that bastard Hans Brix...

Ah, the Italians.

Didn't his wife call him out in a paper recently for drooling over hot young things? And he responded with another open letter basically declaring his love for her but saying "um, I'm still going to hang out with the hot young things and get them government jobs and stuff?"

Obama or Jesus? aren't they the same?

As far as freely elected world leaders go, this guy is the PIMP.

Also, like Jesus, and to borrow from a tired joke, unlike Obama, Berlusconi can build a helluva cabinet (new window)

alacy52 2009-05-01 05:20:26 PM
But how does his popularity compare to the Beatles?

Berlusconi is such a douchebag

Penso che Berlusconi é una cagna.

I love how European leaders can alternate seamlessly between fellating Obama and trashing him when they get jealous that everybody else is fellating him.

Berlusconi is a Nazi sympathizer.

And which Italian media source provided this poll?
Not that it matters since he owns them all.

(New Fox News poll finds Rupert Murdoch most popular man ever!)

Cliche_Guevara: Berlusconi is a Nazi sympathizer.

First people complain when the trains don't run on time. Then they complain when they do run on time.

If you poll only those likely to favor you, you get high numbers. Bush probably won all the polls taken at the CEO clubs.

Cinaed 2009-05-01 11:19:30 PM
Well, I suspect those values are primarily based on the constituents of a given leader.
Worldwide, I suspect the fascination with the big O has certainly not abated overmuch.

Sorry oh ye who clearly has not the tan of our leader, you're not that charming.

randomjsa 2009-05-02 12:04:01 AM
More popular than Obama or Jesus? Well, they both have fanatical worshipers who try to paint anyone who questions them as evil then proceed to denounce such heretics at every opportunity... An aspects that makes non believers tend to dislike both the fanatical worshipers and whom they worship...

So maybe he is more popular.

You know how I know you didn't understand the headline?

Kevua: Obama or Jesus? aren't they the same?

No, because one hangs out with hippies, liberals, losers and tax collectors, and the other one is President.
