Maybe they were going with an Atomic Punk look. But in the spirit of "it looks like the O'Needers", it looks like Van Halan, the "e" at the end isn't very distinguishable.

I was a freshman in HS when that first album came out and many of us lost our damn minds, I remember some of my buddies writing the logo in their notebooks over and over. Ultimately, the band chose wisely.

I was going to snerk about Michael Anthony not being photoshopped out, but at this point I think he probably should be glad to have been thrown clear of that wreck. I am one of those life-long VH fans, but I say fark Eddie for being such a loser that he can't keep his shiat together long enough to finish a single US leg of a tour. And when was the last time he was in a studio? When he did that god-awful porn movie soundtrack? Puh-leeze. My farts after a big lunch at Hooters are more listenable than that garbage.

And yes, I post in every VH thread, and yes, I am pretty bitter that my biggest idol as a teen is a burned out fark up.

The second cover gave us one of the most iconic band logos ever. The first cover looks like it was created by someone who made an assload a couple years later when New Wave and other stuff hit.

And here's a fun bit of trivia, Ain't Talking 'Bout Love, was Eddie van Halen's attempt at a punk song, hence pretty much just two chords.

Indeed. The used first cover was a wise choice. Van Halen is many things, but punk is not one of them. They're pretty much the essence of Hard Rock.

Available as an import, which was better anyway as it had "Jailbreak" and didn't have "Rocker", which besides being a lame song was already on some earlier album... TNT or Let There be Rock maybe?

Plus the cooler cover.

/end threadjack

The original VH logo presented is almost Def Leppard-ish. Horrible bad. The classic VH wings logo is iconic. They're lucky they changed it.

I saw the tour both before and after the "hiatus" and Ed was in top form after his brief 'rehab' stint last March. He might actually turn his shiat around. I still have hope.

But at the end of the day, the man is an absolute nutjob. He's the most paranoid celebrity I can think of.

Thomas Pynchon and JD Salinger disagree about the paranoid thing.

Ah, but as much as Eddie kicks ass (or kicked ass before he went south), Satch is a smooth master, which makes Chickenfoot look like a great next step for some of the VH gang.

Most of the recent year's recordings I have of VH have EVH sounding awful sloppy. Going back to the Cherone tour, too.

Don't know if it's the booze, loss of skills (aka gettin' old) or just plain lazy. Probably a combination.

When he's on, nothing like it.

There needs to be another VH-type band these days. Badly. Hard guitar rock party band with a quality 'being in a rock band is awesome and I bang tons of chicks' frontman. Sadly, probably too much to ask these days. You need to look upset, be mopey, have almost no talent and somehow still act way too cool for the room. goddam kids.

I'd do it myself but i'm too old.

FTFA:
"An eBay user is selling off his copy of the original artwork for Van Halen's first album, which not only has the band's original, name-written-out-in-full logo, it has a picture of the band where David Lee Roth is relegated to the background-and sorta-mimicking Johnny Rotten:"

Between the hyphens and the commas, I cannot at all interpret this sentence.

Besides, these guys are from Ireland and who gives a shiat?

I'm getting a kick out of these replies because the day VH came out I missed my ride and had to walk home from school. I stopped in a record shop on the way home and bought it simply because the cover was so cool. There had not been one word of promotion in KC.

I called my best friend and the conversation was something like this:

Me: You need to come over and hear this.
Him: You should come here. I got the new Journey album.
Me: No, this is way way better than Journey.
Him: I doubt it.

Great story. Here's mine.

Spring '79. Party the night before at our place. A buddy had crashed on the couch. I wake up at 8:30 the next morning to 'Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love' at 150 db. I was pissed, not about how loud it was, but because my roommate and I were particular about people messing with our records and turntable.

//I got over it, though. Later that day the couch-crasher and I killed a bottle of Drambuie.

I'm curious - Was hanging out in malls really an 80's phenomenon, or do all kids take malls way too farking seriously...and I just associate the 80's with malls because I grew up then?

Stay Cool Babylon: Was hanging out in malls really an 80's phenomenon,

It was different then. The kids I see at malls now seem to go there just because it's there, not as kids in the 80s made it an official and often only destination. Also doesn't seem like the kids expect to run into each other at malls as much now.

/also a child of the 80s

So, a mock-up of artwork NOT USED by the band for the cover of their first album is valuable? I have all sorts of things that weren't used as the cover of VH's first album... All over my house!

Also... VH is a band that makes music. Is there any music in this non-used album cover?
