Sorry, Pete, I was too busy researching kiddy porn to hear you.

When's the next Who tour? Are you waiting until Daltrey croaks?

HappyHarryHardOn [TotalFark] 2009-04-30 06:49:23 PM
yeah Pete, and I always blamed "Animal House" for making college look like fun. Then I get there, and it's all tests and studying and stuff

Note: acid was a negative-influence on Townsend.

He found it insanely frightening & was mentally scarred from his few trips - leading to the insidious nature of the Acid Queen in TOMMY.

This from the man who said he stayed with The Who because it didn't require much effort from him.

So did he just get around to seeing those movies?

I'm sure he's got nothing against Austin Powers. He just believes that the movies gave people a warped view of what went on in the sixties in London.

Quadrophenia is an amazing album and was a pretty good movie. I hope the stage version does well.

Shouldn't he be attending a Swine Mexican H1N1 Flu conference?

yeah, seriously... whatever personal demons the guy has, what he says in this article is extremely reasonable. I was expecting an old man "get off my lawn" rant, but this was not that.

Dude, just STFU and play the guitar. That's all we care about from you.

Agreed, but nobody rents "Porky's" for a realistic portrayal of life in the American South in the mid 1950s. It seems like an odd thing to get worked up over.

I imagine he thinks that Quadrophenia do a better job, but were there any other Mod movies made?

Townshend:
"Austin Powers has done a lot of damage to the image of swinging London, parodying what had already been parodied by lazy American newsreels over the years.

"In a sense, my mission is to bring back some of the greyness, the bleakness of those years, and demonstrate to the cast that what happened simply had to happen, otherwise we would all have gone nuts... it was a vital rebellion.

"Everything was turned on its head. Girls looked like boys, boys wore eyeliner and danced alone or in pairs like girls. Today we are facing something of the same kind of upheaval."

Wow, that sounds amazingly... thoughtful.

After the embarrassment of the second and third Austin Powers movies I was pretty upset myself, and I'm not even British.

FTA: "The rocker hopes the British musical debut of The Who's Quadrophenia will help today's youth understand exactly what was going on in the Swinging Sixties."

Um, remember it's not news, it's FARK. Like much of the "news" published today, Townsend just had to find something "controversial" to say in order to PROMOTE HIS LATEST PROJECT. I guess biatching about Austin Powers was the best they could come up with (might want to get a new publicist Pete!)

Every generation says the same thing.

People try to put us d-down (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
Just because we get around (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
Things they do look awful c-c-cold (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I hope I die before I get old (Talkin' 'bout my generation)

Well you seemed to have read the article, and even took the time to reply about it, and guess what, now you know about his new project. Looks like his mission was accomplished, so maybe he doesn't need a new publicist after all.

When a man is running from his boss
Who hold a gun that fires "cost"
And people die from being cold
Or left alone because they're old
And bombs are dropped on fighting cats
And children's dreams are run with rats
If you complain you disappear
Just like the lesbians and queers
No one can love without the grace
Of some unseen and distant face
And you get beaten up by blacks
Who though they worked still got the sack
And when your soul tells you to hide
Your very right to die denied
And in the battle on the streets
You fight computers and receipts
And when a man is trying to change
But only causes further pain
You realize that all along
Something in us going wrong...

You stop dancing.

Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the Weather.

Austin Powers is part of the Idiocracy. That actor would be great in Ow, My Balls.

Loved Quadrophenia. It wasn't exactly Magical Mystery Tour.

rcain: Child porn is a hell of a drug

Townshend was basically framed^ you know?

THE MUSICIANS - Rock stars Robert del Naja of Massive Attack and legendary The Who guitarist Pete Townshend were both arrested in 2003, after the police had leaked their names to the tabloid press. Both men's names are listed on Landslide records as signed up to Keyz websites. But the police never had any evidence that the websites concerned-which are shown as "Alberto" and "Spermed" -had anything to do with children. Nothing was found on their personal computers. The investigations against Mr del Naja were dropped within a month due to insufficient evidence. But the police didn't tell Townshend that their entire evidence against him was a single entry made on Landslide on 15 May 1999 for the purchase of the Alberto website. Under pressure of the media filming of the raid, Townshend appears to have confessed to something he didn't do. He was cautioned and his name was placed on the sex offenders register. Ironically, In April 2006, the Home Office launched the child protection agency CEOP with del Naja's song, Teardrop. Head of CEOP James Gamble, the person responsible for Operation Ore, told the press "I didn't choose the music"

That's like someone saying Airplane! gives you a warped view of what goes on in airports.

I'm still amazed at Farkers' inability to differentiate 'opinion musician sought out the press to distribute' and 'random quote out of context from interview musician decided to do for his own reasons'.

Point taken, Mr. Townshend - but Austin Powers also gave us lots of Elizabeth Hurley being saucy, which cleanses away many a cultural sin.

So it's controversial to say that Austin Powers isn't an accurate representation of Swingin' London? How dare he interfere with the twisted world view you've developed squatting in your mom's basement!

Read TFA. That includes you too, Subby.
