I used to be a desktop tech in a brokerage. The day Joey Ramone died, I said to the mid 20 year old brokers.

"How about a moment of silence for Joey Ramone."

To which they repled... "Who?"

I thought they were joking... they weren't.

The team leader (my age) just shook his head and lamented "kids these days..."

Heh. My wife is about six years younger than I, and we were still dating when Joey died. I heard the news on NPR as I was leaving work, and when I got to her apartment, I was obviously saddened and she asked me what was wrong.

Me: "I just heard that Joey Ramone died."

Her: "Oh, I'm sorry. Was he a friend of yours?"

Me: "...?"

My wife. Lovely woman. Very, very smart. Not a big music person.

hehe... of course I have made sure my kids are well versed in The Clash, The Ramones... even a little Dead Kennedys. As well... they are aware who Wendy O. Williams was, although they are confused by her.

Working up to the Day-glo Abortions...

I play "The Ramones: Mania" and sing a long for my six-month-old all the time. And his young ears are no stranger to Joe Strummer. I'll wait until he's a little older before I break out DK.

Allman Brothers are good for six month olds as well.

One of my great regrets in life is never making it to CBGB. Well, that and the tour of Mexican pig plantations I took last week.

That, and buying an entire Ramones CD instead of just listening to the same song over and over.

Went there and saw Joey Ramone play about six months before he died. Stood on the bass cabinet at stage left through the show. Totally boss.

I played in that club with my band (who shall remain nameless) in the late 90's. Filthiest dump I'd ever seen. Sound was awesome though. My fondest memory was when they brought out the monitors for sound check and emptied 2 cans of Raid into them. I asked the guy what he did that for. He just said, "watch", and a few seconds later, about a thousand cockroaches came pouring out of them. Sick.
great show though.

If The Ramones were worth listening to, I'd be sad that I never got the chance to see them play. As it stands.....meh.

/ My favorite band = awesome.

No. They're 24. Therefore they resemble the remark because they're under 25. They may also believe that the store has some really cute shoes. Therefore they fit into the generalization the person was making, a.k.a. they resemble that remark.

Been there plenty of times but not for any of the classic acts "Blondie, Ramones, Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, Patti Smith" sadly. I'm only 26. It was a POS hole in the wall but it was our POS hole in the wall.

I Tried to go to that place during my first visit to NYC, unfortunately I was 18 at the time and my fake ID looked absolutely nothing like me, didn't make it back to the city until the summer of 07 and for some reason I didn't go that time either(was it closed then, I don't remember) would have loved to seen a show there.

FreakinB 2009-04-30 02:19:37 PM
I'm under 25 and I knew the place. And I did even before going to college only blocks away. We're not ALL ignorant, you know.
