You do realize that there are more breweries than just Miller, Leinenkugels, and Pabst in the state, right?

Yeah, like Old Milwaukee, Milwaukee's Best, and OE 800!

Or a more comprehensive (although not complete) list can be found here: Wikipedia (new window)

There's nothing wrong with Leinie's. OK, except for all of that orange & berry flavored crap. The Northwoods, Big Butt, Red & Creamy Dark are pretty good though.

They have Miller (Mickey's, Icehouse, Red Dog), Leinenkugels, Pabst, Old Milwaukee, The Beast, and Olde English...do I have to go on? Wisconsin wins the most terrible breweries per square mile in the U.S. award hands down.

It's a conspiracy to make the rest of us value our good breweries.

I actually quite like their berry weiss, but I agree that Leinie's can't hold a candle to most of the smaller breweries up there.

The berryweiss is OK in small doses. No more than 2.

I'd kill for a Sprecher rootbeer or creme soda right now.

Last I checked, nine of the top ten cities in the country for bars per capita were in Wisconsin. They go for quantity, not quality, too, as many here have noted. Though I was partial to New Glarus' Spotted Cow and Uff Da Bock.

Especially since his approval rating right now is the lowest it has been since 2003; 45%. In TFA, it says he doesn't support it.

Probably why you can still light up there while sitting at a bar.

Imagine...smoking in a bar.

I'm living in Milwaukee now, and I just did a quick tally- in a two block radius of my apartment there are nine bars. And I'm not even on Water St.

Also, Lakefront Brewery has some decent selections. Their Riverwest Stein is one of my favorites.

I can't name any prominent Republicans in state politics who would be sane, thoughtful governors in the mold of Crist, Schwarzenegger, or that one guy from Utah.

Doyle ain't perfect, but I'll probably vote for him since the alternative would most likely be a wingnutty ideologue talk radio Republican (Walker, Neumann, any of the other Rs who've run for governor in the last decade all fall into that category.)

/...and Thompson's the one who bloated state government in the first place... he can stay retired.

Yea, hey, let's ban alcohol. That'll solve all of our problems.

Yeah, they're okay. Only partook once. And if there's only nine bars, you must be in the sticks, up towards Saukville or something. ;)

Which sucks, all the Wisconsin Republican party wants to do is nominate people on the far right. Over on some forums, a few people shat bricks when I suggested that if the Republicans put someone more towards the center and didn't touch a few issues (stem cells, abortion, etc.), they'd win hands down. What they were concerned about was the Republican Party going towards the middle; fscking facepalm. After Doyle vetoed CCW and wanted DUI roadblocks, he lost my vote. I won't vote for an R if they're another far right candidate; by all means, I never quite liked how Thompson became a parrot for that one RFID chip company. If anything I'll write in someone or vote for a Libertarian if they put up a good candidate.

When I was in Duluth, it seemed a lot of people crossed the bridge into Superior to buy alcohol there due to lower taxes.
I wonder if the tax raise will offset the money lost due to everyone around no longer coming in to load up on booze.

It isn't about changing anything. It is about raising taxes on bad behavior. You know, the taxation without representation without people getting upset. It will make Wisconsinites upset though. I guess this guy doesn't get it. Cigarette taxes may be exactly like alcohol taxes but alcoholics far outnumber smokers.

I weep for anyone who depends on any state-provided services if he actually manages to get elected. The Scott Walker plan of government leadership:

1. Hire buddies to run departments
2. Strip departments to the bone in the name of "fiscal conservatism", while privatizing everything in sight to companies owned/run by buddies
3. Give buddies 60% raise
4. Profit!

back to topic: yeah you wanna see a drunken riot? raise taxes on beer... in Milwaukee!! Germans and Puerto Ricans, Blacks and Polish, Serbs and Swedes will come together and pig roast the politicians like they're Klements Brats at a tailgate party.

God i love my town!

What do you expect when the first OWI is a misdemeanor? It's no worse than a farking speeding ticket, as long as you don't kill anyone. Once a week I have to read "Stoughton man arrested for 9th OWI" or "Jefferson man goes to jail for 3 days after 28 drunk driving convictions." It's sick. And the State Journal gives these asshats a platform to write in and say, "Yeah, I have 9 OWIs, and I'm probably going to get another one next weekend. WTF are you gonna do about it?"

Then again, Wisconsin is the state where the Attorney General gets busted for OWI and actually almost wins reelection.
