I am just heading uptown (20 min. walk, it's how we get our exercise) to W 55th Street in NYC for some Fives Guys. I'm taking about 7 co-workers. Although there are a lot of good burger joints close by, these guys are worth the walk.

Any list like this that does not include the "Thurmanator" from the Thurman's Cafe is a joke.

El Rey De Las Fritas is godly.

Hah! I used to live near the place in Washington. Good food there. Check it out sometime - Lunchbox Laboratory. Just north of 65th and 15th NW in Seattle. Better than Red Mill IMHO.

And I'll add that while Ray's is great choice for Virginia, Bobby Flay has obviously never been to The White Spot.

That's racist.

Personally I think this place has the best burgers in Maryland. (new window)

And Flay was almost right about NJ; the best burgers are actually
here (new window), but since they obviously didn't pay Food Network
for product placement, doubtless they were not in the running.

Hender [TotalFark] 2009-04-29 01:30:26 PM
While I have not partaken in one myself, I've heard for years that Oregon's pick (the Skyline Burger at the Skyline Restaurant) is the best burger around. That's either the longest-lasting guerrilla marketing I've ever seen or a well-deserved reputation.

azmoviez [TotalFark] 2009-04-29 01:31:17 PM
Of course he had to pick a Habenero Burger from AZ.

This is only a 2 pound burger.
Last one I did was 4 pounds.

Win: Calling out Minneapolis and the Jucy Lucy.

Fail: Spelling it "correctly," and failing to mention Matt's Bar on 35th and Cedar where they invented the damn thing. You can find Jucys at dozens of places in town, but Matt's is the original and best. Anyone who says otherwise works for a competitor.

Burger House, Highland Park (Dallas)

What a burger joint should be.. All orders cooked to your specs, real milkshakes and malts, served up in a basket lined with butcher paper..

/best seasoned salt on the planet, too

I'll take White Mana in Jersey City over White Rose. But yes, both are better, and probably more unique to NJ than a half angus, half scraps of steak burger.

NikolaiFarkoff [TotalFark] 2009-04-29 01:36:48 PM
I was expecting Flay's list to include Sandra Lee, Giada, and Nigella, but alas, he's obviously gay.

Glad to see Winstead's made the cut.

Good stuff that - w/onion rings and a chocolate shake.

Grind your own meat, Alton style. Cook it medium rare, mayo on the bottom bun, good stuff on top. Better burger than I've ever had in a restaurant.

Alton doesn't always hit it 100% in terms of taste vs. convenience, but when he does, he nails it.

JerseyTim [TotalFark] 2009-04-29 01:41:35 PM
The best burger in New Jersey ain't some hoity toity $16 burger. It's at the White Manna in Hackensack. Little bites of heaven.

The Slayer at Kuma's was way better before they changed their fries. I don't order it any more, I'd rather have the awesome pretzel roll that their other burgers are served on. The waffle fries suck.

F*ck you in your smug, smirking, biatch-ass mouth, Bobby Flay. The Vortex, Atlanta trumps anything else in Georgia.

Rotier's in Nashville is their TN pick? Bullshiat.

Fat Mo's

In California, I prefer Fatburger.

bravian 2009-04-29 01:46:27 PM
Not a bad list but Bobby Flay is every that is wrong with the Food Network. A total douche.

/love me some Alton tho - unfortunately he is the only decent thing they have left
//also ticked they screwed up Jucy Lucy in MN - Flay was most likely bought off by "Vincent" (and place I've never heard of and I live in the damn city) - go to Matts Bar and have it done right

T-Luv 2009-04-29 01:46:35 PM
I haven't eaten all the burgers in Texas, but just give me some time. I can vouch for the burgers in Austin. The Following burgers pass muster include, but aren't limited to:

P. Terry's
Dan's Hamburgers
Dirty's
Sandy's(sp?)
Short Stop
Red Barn (Round Rock, TX)

/I probably eat at least ten burgers a week.
//I'm 6'2' and weigh 170, why do you ask?

Farkshower1972 2009-04-29 01:46:39 PM
The best burger for Colorado is supposed to be some Mexican monstrosity topped with ham, a hot dog, guacamole, and chile peppers.

Which is bullshiat, since I live in Denver and there is a Five Guys across the street from me.

Bullshiat. Best fast food burger, yeah. Not the best burger. Tioli's CrazeeBurger in San Diego. farking awesome.

Any list like this that omits Pittsburgh's Tessaro's is a pathetic failure, and should hang its head in unendurable shame.

I'm not a big fan of chain restaurants but the mini burger things at Chili's are pretty farking good.

Robbies Marina in Key Marathon. They have a shrimpburger that is mag-frakking-nificant. might not qualify as a hamburger, but it is surely one of the tastier things in the world.

And buy a few buckets of bait to feed the school of tarpon. Best bargain in the Keys.

Just a little interesting fact about New York's "Burger Joint". There technically is no name to the restaurant. It is just a symbol. If you look for registered restaurant names you will see a symbol of a burger. It got the name "Burger Joint" because no one knew what else to call it. With that being said it is totally worth the hour long wait for a burger. You are a mad man to try and go there during the lunch rush Monday-Friday. It can get up to 2 hours wait, because the place is so small.

I'll have to try that Philly Burger. So far the best I've had in town is Standard Tap.

Awesome burger.

Out of all of Cali...they chose a fast food joint?

Murder Burger (now Redrum Burger) blows it away...just to name one.

I haven't been there, either. I was relieved to see it wasn't some $50 dollar abomination made out of Kobe beef and truffles and served with an extra side of attitude.

/I have heard that the $10 dollar burger at the Heathman Hotel is worth it, though.

ain't nothin in the world like a green chile cheeseburger from blake's lotaburger in albuquerque. makes you wanna jump up and slap yo momma.
