In other news, K Street is being renamed "Hope-n-Change Boulevard".

I agree. People who know things about the economy should be nowhere near our government.

\didn't want to know that.

i agree that the revolving door is bad. i think that you should have to wait at least two years before accepting a job on k street.

the worst example, however, is billy tauzin, the republican who basically wrote the prescription drug bill, and who is now the head of... you guessed it... PHRMA.

Code_Archeologist [TotalFark] 2009-04-29 09:33:15 AM
This is not news until Goldman Sachs ends up with a sweetheart deal to get out of paying back the cash it owes the tax payers... then we show up with torches and pitchforks.

But on a serious note... if anybody doesn't like the idea of Democrats becoming lobbyists for the banking industry, then they need to call their Congressman and get a law passed that strips away Corporate Personhood. If that precedent is wiped away by the Congress, then corporations would no longer be able to fund multi-million dollar lobbying operations.

Because working for a financial institution, then working for the House Financial Services Committee, then working for a financial institution again is EVILLLLLL. If you are a partisan retard.

To be fair, didn't Obama put restrictions on admin folks going into lobbying and vice versa?

Yep. That's why none of the 16 or so Undersecretary and Assistant Secretary positions at Treasury (the ones which require Senate Confirmation) have been filled yet.

Actually Goldman's top lobbyist is heading up the Treasury Dept these days.

*sigh*

After so many years of the status quo, I'm sure it's hard to find good people who aren't in the tainted pool.

Small steps, I guess.

At least he isn't literally in bed with the industry as Frank was when he was dating Fannie Mae executive Herb Moses.

Where would Obama get the authority to put restrictions on people leaving government and going to work for lobbying firms?

The other way around, yes.

The "Iron Triangle" is a big problem.

Doesn't have shiat to do with parties.

It should be flat out illegal to lobby after working for regulatory agencies or holding public office.

I guess they need to do some backfilling since everyone left Goldman to work for Obama's administration give stimulus money and kickbacks to their cronies.

So basically, once you've worked for one bloated cawk-sucker you can put that as "previous experience" for working for another.

The last Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson, was previously CEO of Goldman. Geithner was head of the NY Fed and worked at the IMF.

I don't agree with the "climbing into bed" metaphor. I think it's just a really big bed, they're all already in it, and people are changing positions to keep things exciting. Well, that, and for there to be some ambiguity about exactly who is screwing whom.

Seriously. Or was that a troll?

Because if you are that willfully ignorant, I would like you to give serious consideration to voluntarily giving up your right to vote.
A representative democracy requires an educated electorate to correctly function - and you are representative of why this one is failing.

There is no excuse for otherwise intelligent people to remain willfully ignorant, other than sheer laziness.

It's farking deafening.

And if you ask these jackasses, not a one of them can do anything more than repeat already debunked talking points or make gay jokes.

But yet, we still have to share the fruits of our labors with these jackasses.
Can't we just pay them to secede and take the whole of Jesusland with them?

Nabb1,

I hate to say it but this is why you were getting insulted in a thread yesterday. I thought about screaming at the idiot but figured it wouldn't really be any help (like anyone thinks of me like the voice of reason around here) but the loons that claim to be on the conservative side of the spectrum are causing you credibility problems just like the wackos on my side create the fantasy that all liberals are libtards.

To be quite honest with you, I don't know how to make these lunatics go away and if you have any ideas, I am willing to try just about anything, up to and including reeducation camps. [just kidding - I can't afford to pay for camps for idiots]
