Street Sweeper is actually pretty decent...

Boots Riley FTW.

I was always amazed at how much I enjoyed RATM when I was diametrically opposed to their politics. their songs have good hooks in them

Who? Oh that misguided fool. Didn't realized people bought his records. Loved the Che shirt he wears, though I am sure Che wouldn't. But hey, whatever he makes up off his mind seems to be golden if he is still making money.

I grew out of him. Sort of like my sister and Pop music.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

Tom Morello is so overrated as a guitar player, IMHO. Yes, he brings power riffs to the party but it's just about always the same cadence and the solos are generally whammy pedaled to death. The shame of it all is he has the ability to shred and if showed some more of that, the hype gap could be closed considerably.

I definitely preferred his playing in Audioslave where he was able to showcase some different abilities.

The political stuff is just nauseating though. It comes across as infantile whining. That's another reason I preferred Audioslave; the songs had a variety of lyrical content. Too bad Chris Cornell just sounded like he was mailing it in for the most part.

I'm seeing the NIN/Jane's tour and will try and give this a chance but the 100 Little Curses track didn't do much for me and I'm not optimistic.

Morello sucks. He is an awful guitarist. He is the "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" of guitar.

You can get a couple of free tracks on the NINJA tour site, I think.
They're OK. Better than Audioslave, not so good as RAtM.

That song is pretty lame, but I'm not a big fan of cubicle listening. If I were at a club already having a good time, and the dj played it, I might tolerate it.

/Liked Rage growing up
//The Coup was/is OK

In somewhat related news, I picked up Zach's One Day as a Lion on vinyl (with Jon Theodore/former Mars Volta drummer), and while it's ok, it's a total waste of Theodore's talent.

rally 'round your itunes, with pockets full of cash!

/I love Rage, but I was wondering if anyone who knows more about the band than me knows the following:
A. The exact reason(s) for the breakup
B. Why the hell they would release a cover CD as their last (I have a feeling this is strongly correlated with A)

The covers album was to fulfill contract obligations.

I don't know why they broke up though. I had tickets to see RATM/beasties, 5th row. Then mike D broke his shoulder. Then RATM broke up. and the beasties still havent came back to indiana. and RATM is no-more.

And thats history.

Zach is not a terribly prolific writer. That's why Tom Morrello has released five albums in the same time Zach has released one ep.

Wow that really sucks, that show would have been awesome. I saw RATM at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin two years ago when they got back together for that summer tour. It rained for three days before the concert and the hills that the stage is in front of were absolutely covered in mud. People were throwing mud and sliding down the hills and absolutely wrecking themselves on the cement at the bottom. My favorite concert of all time.

Usually funnier before I actually receive an answer, but don't worry your unoriginal comedy has been noted.

Can I sponsor you for TF?

As I understand it (vaguely remember guitar world interview) the musicians in the band were coming up with sweet grooves and Zach was telling them that they sucked.

Say what you will, but RATM had and still has some of the best basslines I've ever played in my life.

Also, whine about their politics all you want, fact is that while they were radicals and wrong about a lot - they were also right about a lot of the corruption and deceit in American society.
