Say what you want about Macy Gray, but I Try is still a great song.

Don't they have essentially the same vocal range though?

My vote goes for Jamie Cullum's version of High and Dry though. That just pisses me off.

That was painful to watch. I started skipping ahead and it just got worse and worse.

You know what? I like Macy Gray, but this was a bad, bad idea. Horrid.

Well, she IS a creep and a loser.

How about NO.

My daughter sings in her original and cover bands. She has sung Creep hundreds of times over the years. She sings it much better than Macy Gray.

Humidor 2009-04-27 09:51:43 PM
No sir, I do not like it.

Meh, it wasn't great, but it wasn't a horror, either. Tempo of her singing was way off, though.

I only know of Macy Gray from her bizarre performance in Training Day. Scary lookin' woman.

When do we get a new outkast album again?

Oh, I have. Trust me. At least Parton didn't leave me wanting to rip out my ears.

/still, it sucks
//but not like this

"Watch it, sucka!"

Yeah, it is kind of a waste of talent for these musicians to slum it and play a Radiohead cover, but they do the best they can given the source material. I'm doubly impressed that there's a Ricardo Montalban Theater, though what do you expect when you also have the Bob Hope Airport nearby?

Am I the only one who didn't think it was complete shiat? I'm glad they at least changed how it sounded to fit her. I couldn't imagine her trying to sing it with the original music. Not the best cover I ever heard but I feel she didn't completely ruin it.

Here's a cover of that song that I like-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_deg_nQrmKk

What the hell is she doing there?

The only explanation for Macy Gray's career is that she must
have sold pot to a whole bunch of record company executives (and
Rosie O'Donnell, who really stumped for her early in her career)
to have gotten as far as she has.

I have never heard anyone so shrill and so obviously bereft of
talent be lionized the way she is. I'd rather listen to fingernails
on a chalkboard.

MikoSquiz 2009-04-28 08:15:11 AM
Yeah, that's not great. It's not particularly terrible either.

Yeah, no joke. The way some people were going on about it in the thread I thought it was going to make my ears bleed. It wasn't particularly interesting, but wasn't gawd-awful or anything.

Am I the only one who read that as Marvin Gay?

I really hate her so much. I also hate how they shoved her into Spiderman because after pumping so much money into her, her second album still sold like shiat.

The woman emotes better than any body else in the field post '82. She's up there with Willie Nelson, David Byrne, Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon, David Bowie, Trent Reznor(if you like that kind of thing) and the rest of the men in the world. That's a hard thing to accomplish when you're female. Just ask Tori Amos.
