(the Gauntlet) Cool Slayer and Megadeth to headline "Canadian Carnage" tour. Avril Lavigne, Sum 41 or Arctic Monkeys to possibly open, hopefully giving the tour's name some much-needed credibility   (thegauntlet.com) divider line 57

I'm going to have to go now.

News to me: Megadeth now has only one member whose name I recognize, and Logan Mader is out of Machinehead. I don't pay very good attention to things, I suppose.

Slayer is 100% intact, so I guess there is a Satan after all. Lineup looks great... I'll never see it ever.

That sounds like a pretty sweet show, but since I won't be going, I found this article a bit more interesting:

Papa Roach frontman comments on fan taking crap in the moshpit

Also, isn't this supposed to be the thread where people argue the merits of Megadeth vs. Metallica?

I thought every tour Slayer was on was called the "Get These Farkers of the Stage and Bring Out Slayer" tour.

God I love metal bands... Always have the best, silliest tour names possible.

Weigard: I thought every tour Slayer was on was called the "Get These Farkers of the Stage and Bring Out Slayer" tour.

Pretty much, this is why Marilyn Manson had Slayer be the opening act last time they toured.

Have seen several bands either get booed off stage, or play their entire set while the crowd chants "Slayer,Slayer, Slayer"

Was kind of amusing to see about half the crowd leave after Slayer performed and before Manson went on.

I can only imagine if Avril Lavigne or Sum 41 were the opening act. There would probably be a fair amount of bottling and the like going on.

At least they aren't trying to have like Nickelback open for Slayer, hilarity would definitely ensue.

I've seen this several times when two big acts are co-headlining.

Weezer/Foo Fighters
Coheed and Cambria/Avenged Sevenfold

All had good portions of the crowd leave after the first band as well.

BuckyFellini 2009-04-27 05:11:17 PM
Subby, that's all well and good except for the fact that the Arctic Monkeys are from ENGLAND.

/willing to trade them for Nickelback, however. And Hedley. Hell, I'll even throw in some mooseknuckles free of charge.

I was at a convenience store across the street from where the Coheed and Cambria/Avenged Sevenfold concert was going on one night with a friend buying some smokes and beer and the clerk asked us if we were going to the show.

I said "Nah, I don't mind Avenged Sevenfold I guess, but that Coheed and Cambria band sucks"

and the guy behind me in line says "Yeah, our music isn't for everyone"

I turn around and it's the lead singer from Coheed and Cambria standing there.

They've always been a Progressive Hard Rock/Metal band.

They're a decent band, with obvious commercial success, and have definitely influenced some Progressive Metal bands, but IMO they're not a Heavy Metal band.

This. Wasn't it last year that Kerry King was on video calling Dave Mustaine a douche at a guitar clinic?

Furthermore, if you don't include Annihilator as "The" Canadian band....fail. (old) Cryptopsy is a close second.

Combustion 2009-04-27 07:21:10 PM
They should call it the "Speed of Sound" tour!

My first concert ever was Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax with an (relatively) unknown Alice in Chains opening. I still can't hear.

The fact is people will argue till the end of the world what is a Metal Band and what isn't. As far as I am concerned, Blue Cheer, MC5, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Rush, and many other late 60's bands were/are Heavy Metal. Sure, you'll get elitists who will claim that only brutal and kvlt bands are tr00 Metal. I personally don't give a flip about that.

Oh, and as for Danny Carey, he is just a pop rock rip off of Norm Leggio. Carey wouldn't even make my top list of Metal drummers.

Necrophagist (yes)

Born of Osiris
After the Burial
Blackguard

MetalMike: Carey wouldn't even make my top list of Metal drummers.

Too bad he's in the top 10 of about every single list I've ever seen in any publication or drummer website.

Rolling Stone:
1. Neil Peart (Rush)
2. John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
3. Ginger Baker (Cream)
4. Keith Moon (Who)
5. Terry Bozzio (Zappa, Jeff Beck)
6. Bill Bruford (Yes)
7. Danny Carey (Tool)
8. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
9. Ian Paice (Deep Purple)
10. Carl Palmer (ELP)

Drum!:
1 Neil Peart - Rush
2 John Bonham - Led Zeppelin
3 Carl Palmer - Emerson Lake and Palmer (ELP)
4 Keith Moon - The Who
5 Terry Bozzio - Zappa
6 Ginger Baker - Cream
7 Danny Carey - Tool
8 Bill Bruford - Yes, King Crimson
9 Mike Portnoy - Dream Theater
10 Dave Lombardo - Slayer

Both lists are obviously missing Tomas Haake and Hellhammer from their top 10 though :(

Chemical Flaw

Psycho Mistress
Insatiable Redemption
Under Carnage
Till Twelve

And I can't believe they got these guys, but Hardcore Flex is headlining. Should be brutal.

What do you mean too bad? Because Rolling Stone wants to put him along side Portnoy and Bozzio I should change my mind? I find him to be rather bland and not really original. Sure, he has some really good technical skills, but so does the jerkoff from Slipknot. I'd take a skilled and original drummer like Ed Warbry, Scott Rockenfield, Rod Morgenstein, or Kevin Emmert over Carey any day.

Right, because co-designing a new electronic drum pad, Link (new window) and using things like Sacred Geometry in his drumming is really unoriginal. At least you admit his technical skills are good.

Musical tastes are obviously subjective, but I was just pointing out it's almost universally accepted among music critics and other musicians that Carey is one of the best drummers there is.

I saw a show that can top that: The Clash of the Titans tour in 198? ... Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax... needless to say, it was supremely kickass... Slayer ruled, but Anthrax were surprisingly good, considering they played after slayer. Megadeth's good but Mustaine cant really sing well and play at the same time. At least not at that show
