Seriously subby?

FTA: In an October 2005 shooting later deemed justified, Cozad killed John Bothwell, 33, during an attempted carjacking at a drive-in liquor store. After Bothwell backed the car into another officer, police said, Cozad shot Bothwell.

A more typical Council-tucky driver would have had way more accidents during that time period.

ubermensch: If it was typical, it wouldn't have made the news, now would it subby?

To clarify, I'm not the subby, but let's say that a typical day of police in your town was going around shooting people at random for no apparent reason. If that were typical of the cops in your town, do you really think it wouldn't make the news? Seriously? Your a idiot.

RealAmericanHero: lol yea, accurate news, these people are such losers.

What part of "it's not news" don't you get? If you expect to get news from a headline, you are retarded. If you expect to get news from a Fark headline, you are creationist-level retarded.

henryhill 2009-04-26 01:28:47 PM
Typical? So this all has happened to more than one officer in that town?

CruiserTwelve [TotalFark] 2009-04-26 01:30:35 PM
Hey subby, did you RTFA? The accidental shooting came after he "retired" and he was forced to retire because of the drunk driving arrest. The only thing he might have done wrong was threaten his wife with a gun, and he was fired for that but reinstated by civil service. We don't get much of the story on that one. But hey, he was a cop so let's make it look as bad as we can, huh?

Oh, and if this was a "typical" career, do you think it would be worthy of a news article? Nope. Of all the Council Bluffs cops, why do you think this one guy gets written about? It's because his career was notably atypical.

James F. Campbell 2009-04-26 01:32:17 PM
Well, it's understandable. After all, you must be below a certain IQ threshold in order to become a cop. Seriously: if you score above a certain IQ, they won't let you in.

Not to mention that he is a "former" cop, and has been since the DUI arrest. The self-inflicted wound happened during his current (and now permanent) stint as a civilian.

That said, I come to FARK for the entertainment, not the accurate headlines.

Isn't it illegal to have a firearm in a bar? Isn't it illegal to discharge a firearm in the city limits? Isn't it reckless to discharge a firearm in public while drinking?

This guy is lucky that the "thin blue line" extends to ex-cops. Otherwise, he'd be facing more charges.

/I wonder how many times he was DWI before he got charged.

On a more serious note - has anyone, ever, known a high school kid who scored above a 30 on his or her ACTs who said, 'I want to be a cop when I grow up?'.

Sister got a 33 and wanted to be a Chicago cop. There was a big few year hire freeze when she wanted to join so she went into the marines instead. Now I think she wants to start a business, not sure what, just wants to start one.

Eh, either way, if there wasn't a hire freeze when my sister was finishing up college then she would be a Chicago cop now.

Isn't that the truth. All a guy does is point a loaded gun at his wife while threatening to kill her, and people keep acting like he's a dangerous lunatic or something. I mean, it's not like he ever actually shot somebody with it....

Cozad killed John Bothwell

well, ok. But I'm sure he was bluffing this time.

Can off duty cops take their weapons into places where alcohol is served? I thought that off duty they had to follow the rules like every other CC holder. Or does it depend on the state?

Sure, I've got questions. If you want to answer them.

I've always sort of wondered....

What do cops think about all the news articles/reports/videos etc that show cops doing horrible/stupid things.

I mean, do you think, 'Geez, the media is really biased against cops.' Or do you think, 'Geez, how could any cop do that, none of the cops I work with or know would ever do that'? Or do you think 'fark yeah, we're cops. You don't know what it takes to be us.'

Like, this article for example. A cop busted for DUI and shooting himself in the leg...is it a 'damn, why do other cops have to go and make us all look bad' sort of feeling?
