Yea, his 2000 lb "leg press". That was amusing.

That would be a great TV sports special. I don't care for sports, but I would watch that!

Seeing this, I think arthritis is caused by inactivity.

My inlaws are examples of this, the mother is inactive and takes every kind of drug to feel better.
The father walks at least ~2-3 miles a day and is as fit as someone half his age.

Did his father fight the Second World War, spend his weekends on the Jersey Shore, and met his wife at the USO? Asked her to dance, danced with her slow?

It is a combination. I am 45. I was told at 37 that I had it. I work out in the water 4 times a week and am doing well. My doctor always says, "Move it or Lose it". Nothing is more true.

Q: What's your diet like?

A: Basic American, but there are some things I stay away from. Caffeine blocks nutrients. I don't drink alcohol except maybe once every two or three years. No deep-fat fried food, and no charred meat. I take a lot of mineral supplements. I spend about $250 a month on nutrition.

No, that's not basic American, that's basic health conscientious

Thought this was going to be about Jack Lelane. Then I RTFA and looked up Jack on wiki, and found out Lelane is actually 95 years old and still going strong. Also, at this guys age, Jack did this :

1984 (age 70): Once again handcuffed and shackled, Jack fought strong winds and currents as he swam 1.5 miles (2.4 km) while towing 70 boats with 70 people from the Queen's Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to the Queen Mary.

====================================

Old people who 'give up' and stop doing anything, are the people who generally can't start again.

My 83 year old (at the time) step grandfather biked nearly 20 miles and much faster than I. Because he STAYS active.

On the other hand, arthritis is also caused by overactivity (ala football players). MODERATION IS THE KEY.

No. Symptoms can be relieved to an extent by physical therapy and exercise, but nobody gets arthritis from not moving.

Jack also found out the hard way that when he opened up shop, in 1936, "the pillars of society...were all homosexuals." (see Q14, a ways down the page)

It's conceivable that he runs a 40 at or under 5 seconds. I looked at some of the senior games (various states) records and found that their 100 meter champs (in the 70-74 age group) would be close to that time, if you adjusted meters to yards and took into consideration the lesser distance. Not saying he is, but looking at times from comparable athletes his age, it is possible.

my grandpa, born in 1919, so that makes him 90 now, still runs 5km a day and does push ups on chairs (sometimes up to 100). he was in the navy for a long time and just got in the habit of staying in shape...
he was never big on weight lifting but still, you wouldn't want to get in a fight with him.

TwistedIvory [TotalFark] 2009-04-26 12:07:14 PM
With a mighty effort, the laws of gravity are suspended and he pulls it upward for a brief moment. When he releases, heavy metal crashes down and Glass exhales.

Not to pick at nits or anything, but that's not actually competition-legal deadlift form.

/I'm a world-record-holding powerlifter so I'm getting a kick, et cetera et cetera
