So, does subby get that these "mosquitoes" are not flying bugs that suck your blood?

Ah, jeez.

One of the kids in TFA is Anass.

I don't blame him if he hates his parents....

/I'm 34, and I can still hear those "mosquitos"...annoying as hell.

I don't suppose they've ever considered giving the kids something to do, rather than just trying to prevent them from doing what they were already?

As an added bonus, there will also be a West Nile epidemic there soon.

So they are actually breeding mosquitoes there or what?

Well, any attempt to provide a place for teens to congregate outside of a supervised, "educational", membership-only setting is considered a bad influence on children and the community.

Seriously. Work through the examples. Ain't no way you can provide any "free time" hang-out for kids without it being considered "contributing to the delinquency of a minor". And unless they can prove you've got some selfish moneymaking motive, they'll assume you're a pedophile as well.

Back in the old days, we had arcades. Now, I just don't know anymore...

As a former teenager who grew up where the majority of residents were elderly people who moved to Florida from other states, I sympathize with the teens and other kids in Rotterdam.

The geezers had better services from the city than we did, not to mention less hassles from the cops.

gorfie 2009-04-25 11:39:45 PM
The plethora of unruly teenagers (and drug dealers) visiting my neighbor's house eventually forced me to move. The only reason teenagers would gather there is because the parents were unwilling to monitor them so they could do whatever they liked without repercussions. The cops never had proof, other neighbors eventually moved as well.

Any teenagers on Fark who think the property/business owners are wrong for wanting the youth to do something other than gather in that location should be doomed to a scenario in the future where they put hard-earned money and time into something only to have random teenagers devalue it just by being there and doing random acts of stupidity.

Get off my lawn takes on a whole new meaning.

Flame away - I'm already bitter.

This isn't new. I read about some jerk doing this several years ago. Before that they just played music that kids wouldn't think was cool but it annoyed everyone. I wonder how many DB's this is and if it can cause ear damage. I used to be able to hear bank alarms but I'm old now. Personally, when I want to get teens off my lawn I just spray them with a garden hose, at least the 19-year old girls I pay to stand in my yard.

if people are okay with using a cell phone blocker to block annoying calls what is wrong with using this to ward off kids?

moothemagiccow 2009-04-25 11:54:14 PM
Under 25 is a pretty goddamn arbitrary number for hearing loss. Does everyone go to shiatty loud concerts at age 24 so they wont hear this crap?

Are assholes really more prevalent in this age range? I find them to be pretty normally distributed. I've met plenty of old assholes, plenty of over 30 assholes and a shiatload of under 5 assholes

Well for starters, this is a public place that part of the public is arbitrarily banned from, not a movie theater.

This is more about the loitering of young men from muslim parents. We don't know if these men proscribe to their parents views, but there is a problem with the influx of immigrants to the area.

I heard about this a while ago. You can "hear" a sample (if you're young enough) by searching the term "teenbuzz" on Youtube. I cranked my PC speakers all the way and could not hear a whisper. My kids started freaking out, though, which was hilarious!

a device that emits an annoying sound with a frequency that can generally be heard only by people under the age of 25.

So how does that work? If you're 26 you suddenly become too deaf to hear it? And what does it do to all the dogs and cats around Rotterdam (if there are any?). I can't imagine this would work in an area with lots of stray dogs, if it clears the kids and all the mutts start howling.

And also there's this: At Marlene's snack bar, they've noticed that since last winter more and more kids prefer to hang out inside the premises. So that's nice for the cops, until they start having...to...chase the kids....back ...outside....

I really don't see any advantages.

http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/jw/hearing.html

Most numbers I've seen quoted are 16-20khz for this thing. What I don't ever see listed is what volume they're supposed to be used at. At anything approaching readily audible it's EXTREMELY painful to hear this sound, the last time I got near one of these things in public even my mother clamped her hands over her ears and needed help getting back into the truck.

Shadowe 2009-04-26 01:33:05 AM
Also just a random thought occured, aside from the "well where the hell ARE they supposed to go" argument has anyone considered what's going to happen when an entire age group that already has a (increasingly valid) persecution complex can't even go outside without being subjected to these things?

What the hell are teens suppose to do? They are too old to hang on moms legs all the time and play with toys. They are too young to have their own homes, careers etc. I'm sick of teens being treated like criminal scum who have no worth and no rights. WTF is wrong with society? Then people wonder why some teens go all emo or criminal. Treat someone like trash for a decade and they are bound to be angry. Teen repellents discriminate against an entire group. They should be illegal. You can't violate the rights of gays, blacks, Jews, etc. but you can abuse teenagers. As the mother of three children this shiat makes me angry as hell.

Gyrfalcon [TotalFark] 2009-04-26 01:41:38 AM
What are teens supposed to do?

Not be teenagers, obviously. Little sh*theads. They need to stop being such babies and grow up and become productive members of society already and stop hanging around whining all the time. If they weren't so useless, they'd find something to do instead of hanging around like a bunch of teenagers.

Duh.
