Everybody knows that the world is full of stupid people, but I got the pistol so I keep the Pesos.

Yeah, that seems fair.

You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means ;)

Back in the 70's when I was a stupid teenager I finished a 16 oz. bottle (glass back in those days) of Pepsi at a beach party, re-capped the bottle and tossed in the bonfire with all the empty beer cans and bottles. It took about 10 seconds for it to register to me and everyone else what I had just done before we stepped back about 20 feet. A few seconds later it blew up. Holy crap it was amazing what a small bottle could do. Fortunately no one was hurt. What I did was just stupid.

Tossing two large drums of paint thinner (empty or full) on a bonfire falls under the category of a deliberate attempt to hurt many people

I remember putting a Lysol can in a fire once. It took forever, but it made an awesome fireball.

Also, try tossing some powdered coffee whitener on a fire some time. Trippy.

There really needs to be a comprehensive list of things that can easily go wrong in a terrible way, because this seems exactly like something me or my friends would do.

Dumbass tag is right! What a terrible waste. That shiat's like 10 bucks a gallon. Next time use gasoline.

Who hasn't done something like that? We were up in the woods and used old hair spray cans.

That was pretty stupid to throw those into the fire. Much better to pass them around to be huffed.

Don't worry, it's inflammable.

So inflammable means flammable? What a country!

We used to throw lighters on bonfires -- startled the heck out of people, but a 20-liter can of thinner? bad times.

Heh.. Sugarloaf...

"One person with severe burns to the legs, with full thickness burns to 20 per cent of her body ... we transported her to hospital, a 17-year-old female transported to hospital," he said.

Great, so whoever did this disfigured a 17-year-old girl for life. Hope his "friends" give him a royal beatdown before he goes to prison for 20 years.

I remember spray cans of paint stripper making 15 or so foot fireballs. We had some nut who worked for an autobody shop & he used to get the trunk discount.

Starter fluid's a lot more impressive from a "simple" explosion pov.
However, what a 5 gallon drum of paint thinner would do is nothing I'd want to be around w/o a fire crew on standby.

I remember when I was six, I discovered that flammable and inflammable meant the same thing, and immediately declared "Well that's just stupid."

n00bz. Here is what you do: get a large pile of brush, so as to maximize surface area. Cover said pile of brush with 3-5 gallons of gasoline. Let sit for approximately 30 seconds to allow gasoline fumes to engulf the immediate areas. Ignite homemade torch and toss it on said pile of brush, from about 30-40 feet away. Sit back, and enjoy the orgasmic excitement that encapsulated 30-40% of my childhood.

Yeah, pretty much. Like I said before, somebody just wasn't thinking. My friends have done similar things with much less dire consequences. We're not chemists. If something were to go wrong like that on a camping trip we wouldn't be thinking of sending X Friend to jail.

In college, we used to party at this off-campus house. It was already trashed so we didn't care what the fark we did to it. One night, someone put a can of soup on the gas stove burner and didn't tell anyone. All of sudden, this loud "Bang!" rips throughout the house. We go in to look and the can had exploded and knocked out one of the ceiling lights. There was scorched, dried soup stuck to everything.
If someone would have walked in there when it blew...

Well actually "one person with severe burns to the legs, with full thickness burns to 20 per cent of her body" might mean Darwin gets em after all. Full thickness = burned to the bone. That's a little hard to recover from, especially depending on how long it took the EMS to get there.

Cans of WD-40 + a bonfire provides some neat action as well.

/I shouldn't be alive.

Best explosion ever, a one pound can of benzomatic propane for torches, full can! Took so long to go off we forgot about it, must of been 15-20 minutes later KABOOM! cleared the top third of a nearly full 55 gal burn barrel completely out, or vaporized that much stuff. Never found either end of can but the cylinder portion was as flat as a piece of paper, and came down spinning kinda like the license plate on the car that got hit by the train in "Final Destination", luckily noone got hurt as we were a fair distance away.

/ah the sixties when you could burn just about anything in your yard!

RocketFood 2009-04-26 01:56:02 AM
I remember a friend of mine tossing old pop cans full of gasoline onto a bonfire when we were about 14 or 15 years old. He did the tossing because he could throw farther, and we wanted to be as far away as we could get. (We weren't TOTAL dumbasses.)

We thought they would make really cool explosions with big fireballs, but they didn't. All they did was burn.
