This is how you tell if someone is from Wisconsin:

We say: Wis CON sin
They say: Wi SCON sin

The distinction is subtle, but it's always there.

At least the lawyer is (probably) making bank...

/They always do.

Lock him away. He isn't salvageable.

I don't think he understands the basic concepts.

He's in prison now...

Ooo, Nakito what are the things that people from WI call people from IL that supposedly gets us upset? I think one is something like FIB (farking IL bastard) and another is something like lowlander.

Geographical nicknames tend to be used by outsiders. SF natives almost never say Frisco, and Boston natives almost never say Beantown. Plenty of non-natives do and think they are using the local lingo.

ohh I know. When ever I go to Vegas people never say "have a nice day." They always say "have a lucky day" or "have a lucky one."

That's what I was asking myself, as well (dnrtfa). I have this picture in mt mind of the cops frisking him and finding his house keys, a plastic comb and a wallet with a credit library student ID card in it...ah hah!...burgler tools.

pvd021 2009-04-25 12:59:27 PM
Stealing other peoples money to keep out of trouble from a lawyer. That sounds about right. A lot of people I know are more scared of lawyers than they are of cops. Hell even cops know not to screw around with lawyers.

StoneColdAtheist 2009-04-25 01:07:20 PM
I started to add...

young black man walking at night + baggy-ass pants + hoodie = burgler

*then I rtfa*

Oops...caught in the act.

Careful there, citizen. A former coworker caught a burgler in his garage, who promptly beat him severely. My coworker finally got away for a second and ran into the bedroom to retrieve his pistol, then shot the burgler dead when he came in the room after him.

The cops gave my coworker a pat on the back, but the perp's family sued him.

Unsuccessfully, but still.

So, I thought that minors get lawyers for free. Or is that only in California?

No news, this was in Beloit.

wPiPeSw 2009-04-25 01:26:55 PM
Burglary tools can be just about anything, really - as long as the person and tools can be tied to a burglary. Could be something as simple as a crowbar.

I lived in WI all my life, and I have never heard that term.

I think it sounds kinda catchy.

I once saw someone driving down the highway ahead of my brother and I with Illinois license plates. We didn't call them "FIBs" until they slowed down to point out cows to their kids.

Seriously, was that their first time out of Chicago?

/never heard "Scony" either.

The later is correct since Wisconsin got it's name from the French (Quisconsin).

The Winnebago hunted buffalo and raised crops on the plains nearby and also fished in the river which either they or the Chippewa named "Meskousing" - "where the waters gather". From the French spelling of this Native American term - "Ouisconsin" - came the present name of the river and the state.

Hell, in some parts of CA, they won't even prosecute this type of case.... due to budget constraints.

You can't tell residents of a state that they are pronouncing the name wrong. People in Louisville pronounce it Lou-a-vull, I don't think King Louis approves.

Yes and worth every damn penny.

\Public Defender ==> Go to Jail.
\\Private Attorney + Old Boy Network + $$$ ==> Charges reduced to nothing.

SeamusFerrell: Ooo, Nakito what are the things that people from WI call people from IL that supposedly gets us upset? I think one is something like FIB (farking IL bastard) and another is something like lowlander.

The term "FIB" is usually applied while driving. The FIB can be found in its natural habitat while on its way back home to Chicagoland, large boat in tow, driving way too fast on the highway and generally having no regard for the other people on the road. (Not that I'm prejudiced or anything, right?) The FIB gets it comeuppance, however, when it learns that Wisconsin State Troopers love pulling over out-of-state drivers.

The other term is flatlander. Because Illinois is flat, and Wisconsin isn't.

Also, speaking as a Wisconsin expat (all the way over here in Minnesota), the term "Sconny" gets old, real fast. Not offensive, just kind of uncreative and annoying.

/go packers
