What a dumbass. There are a number of European countries that have laws pertaining to Holocaust denial. Doing so can get you prison time. David Duke should keep in mind that his First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech isn't applicable in the Czech Republic.

Beautiful.

Justice -- coming to a theater near you.

It's about farking time. These KKK assholes burned crosses on my mom's lawn in north Florida because they were friends with black people -- in the late 60s. It's not like this happened several generations ago.

Almost makes me wish Europe would reconsider its opposition to the death penalty. Bring back Nuremberg!

Instead of the death penalty, we ship 'em to a Turkish prison.

Well I'm no fan of David Duke, but those Czechs are some backwards-ass deniers of human rights themselves, arresting someone for their political views and ideas.

That's a lot worse than anything Duke has done.

I remember when he ran for governor of LA against Edwin Edwards.

Who ya gonna vote for, a crook or a klansman...

They voted for the crook.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2009-04-25 07:54:59 AM
Dear Czech Republic,

While I feel it gravely conflicts with my views on freedom of speech and human rights, please feel free to keep him. Or, at least, if you deport him, please do not send him home. Perhaps Sweden? Thanks.

Sincerely,

Louisiana.

Props to subby for the headline. I love that pun but most people don't get it and then you have to explain it which ruins any pun.

Other dude: Will you take a check?

Me: Sure but I prefer a Slovak.

Other dude: WTF? (While giving me this look like I am a weirdo.)

Well, he still has the right. It just isn't protected there.

It's gonna piss him off, but he has to argue for his release. It is, unfortunately, the right thing to do.

The arrest, in a tourist area of picturesque old Prague, took place in "quite confused" circumstances, said David Janda, the head of an anti-extremism unit of the city's police force.

Wow, having a unit that only deals with anti-extremism......thats kinda extreme, isnt it?

They arrested him essentially for being him. He hadn't given any speeches yet. I'd like to see how they argue this, put a guy on trial for his whole life's activities? What if he was going to give a speech repudiating everything he'd ever said before? Sen. Robert Byrd should think twice about visiting Prague too, I guess.

And whoever said Americans "should stop voting" for him: people have. I guess you could make it illegal for certain people to run for office, but I don't think we want to go there either. In some states felons can run, even if they can't vote for themselves. You want to restrict people from running on account of their ideas?

Racists, holocaust deniers and the like should be given free rein to speak. As a matter of fact, their idiotic mumblings should be broadcast so that all and sundry can really see exactly how moronic they are.

When things are forbidden, it often lends them some twisted sense of validity, which seems counter-productive.

And if the man had not had a flourishing political career in America, they would never have invited him in the first place. He's a national disgrace, on par with Pat Buchanan, who got millions of votes himself.

Hang On Voltaire: Get off the internet and back to the books

Is it wrong to acknowledge that this man owes his career to the entrenched American Taliban of extreme religious fundamentalism? Am I not supposed to point and laugh?

Lesser of two evils, man. Remember the last time someone who held extremist views came to power in/annexed Czechoslovakia (yes I realize they're separate now, but they weren't then). Just sayin'. Free speech is amazing, but these guys have a pretty decent reason for having that one exception to the rule.

Ahh, but to see Obama turn around and get him released would be reek of teh awesome.

seabass242 2009-04-25 09:08:03 AM
On one hand he throws this out there.

On August 5, 2005, Duke published an article stating support for Cindy Sheehan, saying that "The Iraq war and her son's death did not defend America from hatred or terrorism" and that "In fact, the war is massively increasing hatred and terrorism. For every one terrorist killed in Iraq, we are creating thousands more who hate and want to hurt America and Americans. This is the surest way to lose the war on terror, not win it."

Coool huh?.......

but then.......

We (white nationalists) desire to live in our own neighborhoods, go to our own schools, work in our own cities and towns, and ultimately live as one extended family in our own nation. We shall end the racial genocide of integration. We shall work for the eventual establishment of a separate homeland for African Americans, so each race will be free to pursue its own destiny without racial conflicts and ill will

wtf is wrong with this guy

Are you kidding? Opportunities like this come once in a lifetime. "Our Black President" should seize the chance to make an impassioned declaration about how we treasure our citizens' right to free speech. He shouldn't even add any snark about "no matter how stupid that speech may be". It would be a perfect chance to show how great our principles make us, and how tiny and twisted Duke is by contrast.

svenbertil 2009-04-25 09:11:39 AM
He is released now and this is what he has to say:

My lectures in the Czech republic were not on the subject of the Holocaust at all, in fact why all the constant attention on this subject by the media, when one considers the fact that Bolshevism killed, tortured and harmed tens of millions of more people. I never speak about the Holocaust in Europe other than to say that it is a human rights outrage that people are imprisoned for simply having a differing opinion about an historical event.

I was going to lecture about the Israeli influence over American and European foreign policy and the International Zionist Banking firms that are leading America and the world to financial oblivion, globalist hegemony and unending war.

Now they seek a terrible, catastrophic war with Iran.

That is why extremist Jewish organizations worked to keep my message and ideas from the Czech people and the world.

Oh, and FTFailingA:

The Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1866 by a group of US Civil War veterans from the defeated Confederacy, a group of southern states that upheld slavery and maintained African Americans were inferior to whites.

FT accompanying photo:

This undated file photo shows David Duke, founder of the Invisible Empire, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan

Either someone was taking really good color photographs a lot earlier than anyone has ever suspected, or Duke is aging extremely well.
