I hate both Anonymous and the Church of Scientology.

Where is the list to see both of them nuked from orbit?

Not a fan of him being a scientologist, but that farker can dance! Best show ever a few years back was when Beck toured with The Flaming Lips.

The sign on the roof reads West Bengal SCIENTOLOGY Free School, too bad it didn't mean Scientology-free school (badump-bump)!

Not bad, but was the parenthetical stinger really necessary?

While I'm a fan of Beck's music, and I don't care what kind of weird religious beliefs the guy has, shilling for a fake charity is very uncool.

Occam's Chainsaw: Not-So-Fun Fact: Beck is a child of Scientologists. Apparently they've paid attention to the Christians and hook 'em while they're young.

They've tried that, but it doesn't really work for the most part. Second-generation Scientologists are few and far between and most of them leave the "church".

Hell, they have trouble keeping converts for any extended period of time. I think it has something to do with the fact that the religion is based on emptying people's wallets, instead of making them feel better about themselves.

Really? And when to Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus 'hook 'em'?

I was a concert so secret, he was almost done before they told anyone about it! (this exclamation point removed due to copyright claim by the Church of Scientology International)

I agree to a point.

One problem with Scientologists though is the knowledge that the obscene amount of money they pay to the church is used largely to trick people in to checking out the religion. And their insistence on spreading their religion in the guise of doing things like offering rehab for prisoners and educating third world children pisses me off. At least the other religions that do it don't try to pretend that evangelizing is not part of the program.

The only other group I have seen being that sneaky was the Moonies.

I've always been a huge fan of Beck, but hated when I found out he was a Scientologist. I kind of console myself with the fact that he's not at all outspoken about Scientology and that his parents were Scientologists, so perhaps he's just one of those who is scared to leave the church in case they take a hit out on him like they do with a lot of deserters.

(Or maybe he is just a big bag of douche like the rest of them).

I love bringing up Beck's Scientology history with Beck fans because it really bums them out. I also can't believe no one has created a character combing Beck and Glenn Beck.

Please let this be the only time he has pulled this kind of shiat. I've been to one of Beck's shows at the Echo, and it was incredible. So I don't want to tarnish that memory with the thought that my $25 could have gone to Xenu.

Scientology is getting a cut out of all of his earnings. You're just kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

Yup. And you can also be pretty sure he has been assigned other celebrities to try to recruit.

I listen to more than a few artists who have belief systems that are quite different, and in many cases, quite oppositional to my own. It's never been a problem, although when the artist starts to shove it in the face of everyone it does hurt the music. If I was a Beck fan, I wouldn't care that he's a Scientologist. However, like GibbyTheMole said, shilling for a fake charity is very uncool. I dare say this goes beyond just being uncool into outright theft and deception and it shows complete disrespect for his fans.

I have no problem listening to the music of a few nutcase pagan moon-worshipers and enjoying it. But this is just bullshiat.

Seriously, why? What religion HASN'T proven itself to be a method of grabbing power while drawing from its followers' pocketbooks? (OK, maybe Buddhism.) Scientology might be a little more blatant about it, but that's just a matter of degrees.
