(Starpulse) Sad Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler to record an album 17 years after "Dehumanizer," thankfully under the name Heaven & Hell so they don't drag the Black Sabbath name through the mud with this embarrassing charade   (starpulse.com) divider line 53

I'm so farking psyched to hear the rest of the album. The single Bible Black is great. The Heaven and Hell concert last year was the best metal show I'd seen since Maiden's Powerslave tour.

I'm sure the reputation of Black Sabbath really needs to be protected.

GreenAdder: I'm sure the reputation of Black Sabbath really needs to be protected.

Tony and Geezer just want to make sure that Ozzy will tour with them again when the time comes.

At least the album and tour will probably do better than Ozzy & Family's abortion of a variety show.

count me among those who think submitter is full of crap in thinking that this music will suck.

soseussme 2009-04-25 06:04:42 AM
I probably won't buy it but it should be good for those who like metal. A friend took me to the Heaven& Hell show last summer and I was impressed -- I'd never really realized how technically accomplished those guys are, even though I was a fan of sorts (mostly the Paranoid album, honestly).

Ronnie James Dio is kinda goofy, but he's one of the best metal vocalists ever.

Troll headline is obvious.

Illidan 2009-04-25 08:20:05 AM
I like it quite a bit. Ozzy brought a unique quality to the band, but I felt the later vocalists were "better" in most ways. I can't say who I enjoy more, but to say Sabbath is somehow worse without Ozzy.. no. Several later albums are crap, but Sabbath has 12-14 good albums at this point.

rockrobster 2009-04-25 08:23:10 AM
trollmitter fails. if you want albums that drag the Sabbath name through the mud, try the last two with Ozzy the Clown. other than a song or two from each, those albums are awful.

or try Forbidden, from the Tony Martin-led Sabbath. that sure sounds more like hell, whereas the new record sounds more like heaven.

at least they're creating awesome new music, instead of recycling the same tour over and over, playing the same setlists over and over, or making awful television shows over and over.

new heaven & hell > last ozzy solo album.

Ghoulthulhu 2009-04-25 08:49:15 AM
Ozzy Osbourne is the only thing that has tarnished the Black Sabbath name.

/Biggest ozzy era sabbath fan possible.
//Thinks Ozzy needs to hurry up and choke on a bathead and go away

craigdamage 2009-04-25 09:46:24 AM
Can't be denied--

Dio is quite a bit silly, hacky and cliched.

However,it also can't be denied--Dio is a total pro.

Dio has taken real good care of himself and is a totaly professional performing and active musician. He can still belt it out.

Ozzy(who is actually 6 years YOUNGER than Dio) is a babbling train wreck.

I seriously doubt Dio requires a stage teleprompter like Osbourne.
Both Ozzy and Dio have in my opinion rather embarrassing solo records.
Ozzy's legacy with Sabbath is NO dispute.
Dio also has a superb metal legacy.
"Mob Rules" "Heaven and Hell" and the epic Rainbow "Rising" are all landmark records.

btw--please check out the recently released
Rainbow "Live Munich 1977"
It is astonishingly good.
It is far superior to ANY live Ozzy I have ever heard.

Tyler823 2009-04-25 10:09:30 AM
Fark you, subby.
Heaven and Hell is pretty awesome.

iketurner 2009-04-25 10:22:22 AM
subby needs to STFU. Give me "Sabbath" with Dio any day over Ozzy.

Metraxis 2009-04-25 10:35:14 AM
Bible Black? Damn. Now I'm going to have that piano riff stuck in my head all day.

SPna15 2009-04-25 11:39:24 AM
Subby's an idiot. This album is great. I downloaded a leaked copy, and I'm so going to buy it next chance I get. Seriously, the entire band sounds great, and their age doesn't show at all,

drewogatory 2009-04-25 11:44:26 AM
Ummm, hasn't this record been out for a little? A buddy gave a copy quite a while ago at any rate. Certainly it's not an all time classic, but it's far far better than anyone really has a right to expect for a freaking new Sabbath record. Better than Dehumanizer, not as good as H & H and Mob.

Gunny Highway 2009-04-25 12:02:04 PM
they can do no wrong.

rockrobster if you want albums that drag the Sabbath name through the mud, try the last two with Ozzy the Clown. other than a song or two from each, those albums are awful

I violently and vehemently disagree.
Everybody who says that never even owned those two.
It is simply assumed because few tracks from those two wind up on any compilations.

Listen again.

Ozzy was actually the one who opposed the direction those two records were going in. Tony and Ozzy fought. Tony wanted to attempt doing something more than just repetitive power chords like "Sweat Leaf"
The arrangements on "Technical Ecstasy" and "Never Say Die" are superb.

Listen to:

"Back Street Kids"
"Dirty Women"
"Hard Road" and "Air Dance" have more good hooks and changes than ANY previous Sabbath song recorded.

"All Moving Parts Stand Still"
"Shock Wave" and "Over to You" are also very good tracks.

...I admit, hearing pianos and clavinet is an odd mix with Black Sabbath. Good rock songs though.

I did the same thing, and I thought the album was solid. There are some very strong cuts but what drug it down a little for me were not enough tempo changes between songs. There are a couple too many "stompy" sounding cuts but overall I thought it was an great effort. There are four or five solid cuts that would fit in well with the older songs in a live set.

I've seen Heaven And Hell three times and they kicked my ass each time. The first show I managed to get two hand-thrown Iommi guitar picks off the floor when the lights went up!

I think Ozzy's last tour with Sabbath was kind of a blemish on their record. They hadn't changed the set list in years and Ozzy's voice went out halfway through the tour which lead to some awful shows and a number of cancelled ones!

MikoSquiz 2009-04-25 12:50:15 PM
If only they'd thought to change their name or preferably call it a day back in 1976.

halo_of_flies 2009-04-25 01:34:48 PM
I saw the original The Mob Rules tour and had a great time. I also saw the first Blizzard of Oz tour around the same time. I think I enjoyed the Dio version of Sabbath more than the Blizzard. Although they (Blizzard) only had the first album out at the time so the concert wasn't very long with some Sabbath songs for encores.

Barton Fink 2009-04-25 01:38:33 PM
My buddy is the touring keyboardist for Heaven and Hell.

What a totally awesome gig....

/even if they do make him play backstage!

This is the most correct sentence I have ever read.

syrynxx [TotalFark] 2009-04-25 04:32:38 PM
I'll stand in line for the train we're running on subby. Heaven and Hell, Judas Priest, and Motorhead were phenomenal last year, and god bless Rob Halford, but he's really got to strain to push it out these days. Ronny James' voice and Tony Iommi's guitars seemed like they came from 12' tall Titans, not the mere mortals on stage.

Testament was there too. They sucked.

Archfeld 2009-04-25 05:04:23 PM
"Ronnie James Dio is kinda goofy, but he's one of the best metal vocalists ever."

Kinda goofy is an understatement but I'm not an MTV child, I don't go to a concert to "SEE" musicians...

Cross of Iron 2009-04-25 05:04:32 PM
SubmitTROLL is obvious. Sabbath with Dio was awesome. I've heard Heaven and Hell AND Mob Rules. Both are killer, despite the fact that I own neither.

/First six albums are the best, anyway.
//Dio-era Sabbath STILL rules.

groverXIII 2009-04-25 08:00:44 PM
You're a bit late, Subby... it's been recorded and on the internets for a few weeks. And it's AWESOME.

Orion5k [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-04-25 08:16:16 PM
I remember seeing Heaven & Hell a while back. I mainly went to see Megadeth, but was eager for a chance to see Iommi and Butler play. While they were still amazing in the musicianship and songwriting category, it was hard to take them seriously when Dio was wearing a silver-sequined vest and swinging his arms around like a mo-town singer.

STRYPERSWINE 2009-04-25 08:28:04 PM
I have the live dvd and it CRUSHES. Dio is like 900 years old and he commands the stage. Puts on a good show and his voice is so strong and unchanged by time. Geezer's bass playing went to a new level in the Dio years. And what can I say about Iommi? The man wrote every heavy evil riff ever created and he STILL comes up with NEW heavy evil riffs.

Peter_Veal 2009-04-25 09:25:00 PM
I really liked the first IOMMI solo album, and that Bible Black song sounds like it could easily fit on there. I also liked G//Z/R when that came out awhile ago.

Ozzy, come on now, there's really no comparison.

somemoron 2009-04-26 01:04:24 AM
Submitter, as has been stated several times already, is full of crap. In order to drag the name Black Sabbath through the mud, Black Sabbath must first have been pulled OUT of said mud.

\Obvious? Oh yeah.

oh, i've heard 'em. even listened recently, within the last year or so. 'air dance' is really good. 'hard road' is all right. 'dirty women' is exactly like dirty women in general: a good thing.

i think there are some awful tracks on those two records too. so awful that the cool songs are overshadowed.

i mean, it's cool you dig those records. i'm all for that. my favorite band definitely sucks. but this is fark, so i have to call everything i don't like 'awful' or whatever.

"Gypsy" from "Technical Ecstasy" is laughably embarrassing no doubt.

Not any worse than say "Changes" from "Vol 4"

Heaven And Hell > Black Sabbath. sorry, but fark ozzy. I am so sick of that coont. Black Sabbath might be legendary, but ozzy is a coont and I can;t stand to listen to any of the material that he has sung on anymore.

plus, Heaven And Hell were times better LIVE than any of the multiple time I saw Sabbath with ozzy.

Damn straight! H&H kicked all kind of ass last summer. Priest, as good as they were, should have been opening for them. Iommi was playing some ancient, beat up POS guitar, but it sounded great, and even though RJD looks like Smeagol, he still delivers.

Motorhead were surprisngly loud, but pretty good. Testament? Meh.

I saw that Judas Priest / HH / Motorhead / Testament tour too.
I was disappointed with Dio's effort in "Neon Knights."
Halford uses a teleprompter. He did a small show at the famous Mason Jar in PHX (200 people) some years ago and it was front and center stage. Oh well can't expect him to remember everything.
I bet Ozzy uses one too, the doddery old fark.
DIO DID NOT!
Oh and the commercial radio DOUCHE that introduced Motorhead in Phoenix deserves to be strung up.

/Will see Dio at every opportunity

In the words of The D

Dio has rocked for a long, long time,
Now it's time for him to pass the torch.
He has songs of wilderbeasts and angels,
He has soared on the wings of a demon.

It's time to pass the torch,
You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you.
We're takin' you to a home,
But we will sing a song about you.

And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of.
You'll tell us secrets that you've learned. Woah!
Your sauce will mix with ours,
And we'll make a good goulash baby.
Dio, time to go!
You must give your cape and scepter to me.
And a smaller one for KG.
Go! Go! Dio! Dio!

Well, you don't know me, but I have. : ) Dehumanizer has some very cool stuff on it-- Computer God, Sins of the Father, Time Machine. That disc is a crusher.
