The sad fact is, most people probably don't have a clue and so are not asking the simple question: why are their politicians lying to them?

Having gone through the Police Camp that is the US Customs crossing back from Canada last weekend, I can say that even if they had come from Canada (which they didn't) they still would have had to have gotten through US customs had they come from Canada or outside North America. It doesn't really matter. They all came to the US legally.

The US and Canada should be working harder to coordinate security an immigration policy and just open the border up European style as far as movement back and forth.

Apparently Napolitano got the line about the Canadian connection from Vincent Cannistrano, not the most reputable of sources, given he was the go-to guy for the Contras with Oliver North, and the Yellowcake Uranium documents pre-invasion of Iraq. But what possible benefit could there be for him or America in general to have a stronger border with Canada? As the article says, most of the bad stuff coming across Americas borders is coming from the South, not the North.

A) Stephen Harper was going down in flames, and the opposition parties were about to throw his ass out on the street for being an incompetent blowhard / social neanderthal.

B) Facing imminent removal from his seat of power, Harper begins P.R. campaign blaming his opponents for "twisting democracy" and immediately begs the Governor General - the Queen's representative domestically - to prorogue parliament so that things can "cool down".

C) GG prorogues parliament for a few months while the economic downturn really pulls out some steam, leader of the primary opposition party steps down - replaced by a much less "coalition-friendly" Liberal leader, Michael Ignatieff. Who, by the way, is beating our Prime Minister consistently in current polling - because nobody likes Harper except the Albertans and social conservatives. (Alberta being the Texas of Canada)
