I 'd expect that approximately 26% of the population thought everything was fantastic and couldn't be better until some time around the end of January and then suddenly went to hell in every possible way so fast that even Baby Jesus couldn't wipe away the tears fast enough.

That might have some dampening affect on the numbers.

Personally I don't think anything will ever be ok in America until Obama makes good on his campaign promise to lock up all "conservatives" in concentration camps.

The American Wanker makes a big point about the disproportion political affiliation of those polled.

There may be another reason why there are fewer people identifying themselves as Republican, other than a conspiracy to slant a poll you know.

That's easy, all the Liberals have to do is build walls around their cities. Much easier and more cost effective that way.

I wanna see what his approval rating is in two years. Too bad I have to wait two years to see it.

SkinnyHead: Insiders know that Rasmussen is the most accurate poll.

Oooh, mysterious insiders to back your opinion up. I bet that either you also can't cite your mysterious insiders, or your mysterious insiders are the GOP leadership. Rasmussen has been an outlier for months. They are basing their numbers on the party identification numbers of 2004, which is a big difference from party identification numbers of today. It is a bad model, not the truth from mysterious insiders.

FireBreathingLiberal: oops

Month of poll please.

TFA: They don't seem to understand that one, poll collections are weighted so the groups are balanced against current demographics, meaning that slight differences in numbers are balanced against reality, and two that Republican identification is in the tank. They would have made a more valid point talking about how only 3/4 of the President's party think he is on the right track, rather than trying to pretend there is bias in the numbers that is weighted out.

cousin-merle 2009-04-24 06:45:51 PM
Blow it out your ass American Thinker. No one likes Republicans anymore.

Besides, I'm willing to wager that the poll sample was a lot like Fark where 18% of the people claim no party affiliation but voted for Bush twice and then McCain Palin.

GAT_00: Not Bush. He only got one after we got attacked.

Yes, his approval rating shot up after a big crisis and everyone got into the "patriotic, we must stick together, the government will save us" mindset. Once that wore off, people realized that the politicians used the fear and goodwill to pass a bunch of shiatty legislation.

Obama has the advantage of that crisis happening before he became elected and Bush doing all the wrong things. Obama's doing the same stuff Bush did, but worse, thankfully everyone got into the "patriotic, we must stick together, the government will save us" mindset so they will give Obama a pass on the same stuff they gave Bush crap for. Once that wears off, people will realize that the politicians used that fear and goodwill to pass a bunch of shiatty legislation.

Same sh*t, different day.

It will be interesting to see what his approval rating is in two years.

BuckTurgidson 2009-04-24 07:05:22 PM
Looks to me like if about only about 1/3 of the "None Claimed" party category answered "Right track", it would add up to the 48%. Is that the problem?

Or is he noticing that it's getting harder and harder to find people willing to admit they are Republicans, even in an anonymous phone poll (though those who remain are the bitter-enders)?
That Republican party identification has been plummeting for five years and is approaching post-Watergate lows?
That independents lean Democrat over Republican by a 2 to 1 margin?
That in the last election, career Republican candidates were desperately running and hiding from the Republican brand?
That just the name "Republican" is now so pejorative, Republican dead-enders are demanding the Democratic Party rename itself something worse, just to be fair?

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2009-04-24 07:14:04 PM
Crosshair: so they will give Obama a pass on the same stuff they gave Bush crap for.

I don't seem to remember Obama passing the Patriot Act (yes, he gave it a pass as Senator but not as President) or invading a country and completely farking up the occupation, or wrongly invading a second country. What has Obama done that he is going to be hated for? TARP? Bush started that and gave far bigger payouts than Obama, who also added clauses to it. The car industry? Obama is requiring more from GM than Bush did. The budget? Can be broken down into deficit that Bush caused that wasn't added to his last term, the takeover of Fannie and Freddie that Bush started, additional TARP funds and the stimulus, which was far more bipartisan than anyone gives it credit for, especially considering that the Repub votes were unnecessary and they added pointless tax cuts for the rich on it. Take out those, and Obama's deficit is no bigger than Bush's, and that's including Iraq, Afghanistan, which Bush never did, and money for a national medical plan.

What has Obama done that is ANYWHERE near as bad as what Bush did?

cousin-merle 2009-04-24 07:15:47 PM

Bush ramped up spending and bailed out failed businesses. Obama is ramping up spending and bailing out failed businesses. It's not opinion.

GAT_00: What has Obama done that is ANYWHERE near as bad as what Bush did?

Give him time, so far the bailouts are rather bad by themselves. Yes there is the debt from Bush that is added on. Freddie and Fannie should have gone bankrupt. Obama's current Keynesian direction is going to come and bite us in the *ss.

Yes, Bush did allot of crap in 8 years. Obama hasn't even been in 6 months and already he's taking us WAY in the wrong direction.

Yes, these are the only things that Americans care about. Also, government spending is always bad because it's the government, and the government is always bad. Because it's the government. You are right. Can I be invited to your mensa blogs now?

Funny thing. How many blues songs have been written about the concept of "I've been down so long, it all looks up to me?"

Yeah. That's what the last 8 years have been like. You could have Jimmy Carter or Ronald Reagan in the driver's seat and it'd be an improvement.

You're never going to get a polling population that exactly maps over the general population. That's why survey takers weight their results. If you have disproportionate groups then you weigh each group differently to come up with your result. Someone just totaling up the raw numbers won't come to the same result. Which is why this guy sees "similar distortions" in other polls. If he had done even the smallest amount of research he would have seen why.
