I was going to post a pic of Chris Crocker and say in an oh-so-superior way, Now that that's out of the way...", but then I did a GIS. Oh dear God my eyes.

/And I'm at work dammit!

Honestly, I thought it sounded kind of neat.

Then again, I like Charles Ives, so there you go.

Who the hell couldn't tell this was manipulated? The guitar part wavers in pitch the same way the vocals do.

Apparently, there are a large number of people who refuse to accept the truth. Butthurt mixed with jealousy makes a very bitter cocktail.

Beyonce is truly blessed with a fine set of pipes, yet every song
she releases is auto-tuned and scrubbed to the point where they
all sound EXACTLY the same due to her 'genius' boyfriend producer
Jay Z.

Yup, damn fine pipes.....

Why did he need to prove a point? Ive heard Beyonce sing in concert and it still sounds good. Yes the studio can adjust the songs but it takes a true audience to be able to dance around and still sound good

I don't think he was necessarily proving a point about Beyonce herself, just that vocals can be manipulated and so that nobody will be able to tell. Actually, I think he proved his point pretty strongly, since even people who *know* Beyonce has a killer voice did not realize the YouTube video was faked.

Sure, she's a great singer and very talented but I can't stand her music. Every Beyonce song sounds the same.

from the article -- he said he was just trying to make the point how easy it is for nearly anyone in the record biz to change and alter voices. Therefore, he deserves the HERO tag!

Female pop stars have about 10 years to make all the money they can before they get replaced by the next thing. She might as well make the most out of this formula while she can.

FTA: "If you can't poke fun at yourself, I don't know what kind of person you are."

So he was making fun of himself? Or Beyonce did the audio manipulation herself? Who is poking fun here?

He needs to realize there is a lot more money to be made by making Britney Spears sound good than making Beyonce sound bad.

What industry? The pop industry? You can't be serious.

haplo53 2009-04-24 01:08:01 PM
Beyoncé told MTV News that the timing of the video was perfect, "because I'll be on the Today show tomorrow singing 'Halo,' [and] tonight, you can watch me sing live on David Letterman! It's perfect promotion, whoever came up with that idea." (Beyoncé did indeed perform "Halo" on Letterman last night.)

Good for her. She had every right to be pissed off.

I guess I didnt think about it that way. Its amazing how easy people are to be minupulative (or however you spell that). I could understand if someone did that to Britney Spears since it has been done before, her voice is def not that strong.

Dumb-Ass-Monkey [TotalFark] 2009-04-24 01:21:38 PM
steviesgirl777: Ive heard Beyonce sing in concert

are you sure?

many pop stars don't 'sing' in concert. They'll record a set of concert vocals, sunning around the stage, sounding exactly like they will in the main show. Then they'll choreograph every last detail so each show is exactly the same. That way, the concert vocals will sound live, like she's doing everything and singing at the same time.

xalres 2009-04-24 01:22:48 PM
I think the guy makes a good point with the industry being obsessed with perfect pitch, to the detriment of everything else. It's gotten to the point where you don't need to have any actual talent to become huge, you just need to look good in videos and on stage.

They need to go back to natural talent where a little imperfection is allowed to get through. You think artists like Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen are so highly regarded because of their pitch-perfect voices?

\always described Waits' voice as sounding like the finest single barrel bourbon, filtered through trainyard gravel.

Who's saying we need a life support system for pop music? I would like a return to meaningful pop music. That's all.

You don't see the type of production and work that goes into a pop album like Quincy Jones or Brian Wilson did back in the day any more. Technology has made things easier, but there isn't much talent there...

I can't even begin to imagine what would happen if someone tried to create something like "SMILE" today.

Well, technology has enabled untalented "stars" to be the face of producers. Still, they have to have something in order to sell records. No technology or producer could turn Paris Hilton or Heidi Montage into pop singing sensations.
