(Rolling Stone) Asinine Velvet Revolver still looking for a lead singer. How hard is it to replace a heroin addict who can barely stand up and could barely sing in any given key anyways?   (rollingstone.com) divider line 38

I'm guessing Amy Winehouse is probably available.

the appeal of aic was no matter how farked up layne was, he could sing his balls off.

and scott weiland used to have a decent voice before the cocaine ate his vocal chords away.

they should get somebody like rob crow to sing for them, not another faggy buttrocker. why can't these people lend their talents to a genre other than generic post-grunge blues rock?

sbcjack 2009-04-23 02:14:58 PM
I agree with the headline, but I saw them in the back lot of the Jimmy Kimmel show a few years back and say what you will about Scott, but that dude can put on a show

Doctor Hooey 2009-04-23 02:19:34 PM
Weiland may be a fark up but he has a GREAT singing voice. Subby fails.

Not live and not lately. I think he messed it up with drinking and smoking the last 5 years. Saw him with STP and VR and both times his voice was very, very thin. Love his vocal work on the albums, though.

If they're smart, they'll kidnap Chris Cornell, beat some sense into him, and maybe, just maybe, they'll put together a record that doesn't sound like cats being set on fire.

Unlike practically EVERYTHING that VR has done

il Dottore 2009-04-23 02:40:22 PM
Weiland can be a poncing twit but at least he's entertaining- especially when he does things like tries to leap onto a subwoofer and hits his head on the bottom of the flown array and tumbles unconscious into the pit on top of the security beef...

/clumsy sentence- just pretend that it's Weiland

If you read slashs book then singer is the hardest slot to fill, thought they had settled on a singer a while ago though

The one show I saw of STP, he called out a douchebag who was sitting front row flicking him off, had him kicked out, and then got the entire place laughing at him (the douchebag) as he made his way to the door.

I'm guessing Amy Winehouse is probably available.

Given that his new variety show tanked, Ozzy Osbourne should be available.
Not to mention Stevie Nicks, once the new Fleetwood Mac tour wraps up.

/like them both
//truth hurts, though

Talk shiat about Wieland and his drug use all you want, but when I saw them in June of last year, they put on a pretty good show and he was their leader.

Sure, it took him forever to get out to the stage after the opener, but it was worth the wait.

Scott is far superior to Layne in his drug use, obviously.

GrazoTheClown: Call Axl.

Step 1: Reconcile with Axl Rose.
Step 2: Do a G&R Reunion tour, using the entire Appetite for Destruction album, along with November Rain, one of Axl's new songs, and one of Slash's post-GnR songs.
Step 3: Profit (as in eighteen-wheelers full of money kind of profit)

Anarchangel 2009-04-23 04:19:40 PM
Really, they should be doing everything they can to get Axl on board. Then they should tour with Chickenfoot as the opening act.

I'd pay $50 or more for a ticket to that show, any day.

/lacking this, call Colby Veil, from Hollywood Rose.
(Looks and sounds like a 20-year younger Axl did)

I'll take the job.

A few times I've jumped on the stage with my buddy's band to belt out some STP tunes, and seemed to please the crowd. Got free drinks and pussy out of it, too.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I have a feeling tix to a show like that would run you 4x-5x that, and that's just the face value.

While its unlikely that VR dudes would respect his street cred,
a surprising place to find a match would be the current American Idol group.

Adam Lambert has got the chops, originality and style
that could do the job.

But I don't think they'd like the fact he seems to play for the other side
or is glam
or is from Idol

I know I cringe a bit at the bubblegum pop,
but I'm actually beginning to think watching his performances and renditions it might fit.

VR would put the crunch, hook, rock and blues into him
and he'd give the melody, vocals and frontman style for them.

Hey, if Judas Priest can handle it, VR can too.

This is such an f'ing joke. The kid can sing very nicely, but he is not rock n' roll or even much of an artist. His delivery is SO contrived. I swear every movement and every "ad-lib" that guy makes/takes are choreographed. The way he looks at the audience sideways/flirtatiously, then nods his head...it's so lame.

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2009-04-23 06:56:49 PM
Adam Lambert? He's the gay dude from Am Idol, right?

As correctly noted, he is a theatrical contrived goofball. He may have range, but he has no balls. He makes Freddie Mercury look like the most manly man in the world.

VR might as well get Mika if they are going for the swishy faerie-voiced singer.

And I mean Freddie as he is today.

Funny. I was just thinking about Ripper Owens. Wouldn't be a bad choice.

rogue49 2009-04-23 09:06:40 PM
From what I understand from Slash's book and other articles,
they've already tried out Ripper, and moved on.

Yes, he is theatrical...yes, staged,
but still there is a originality to him
and you can't deny his range.

Like I said, I doubt VR would consider him,
Slash is very picky...the others seem to follow his lead.
But understandabily so, Slash's instincts in music are dead-on.

I'd pay to see Hillary Duff fronting VR before I'd pay to see Duff McKagan. The former would be entertaining for entirely the wrong reasons, but it'd be entertaining.

/There were "Duff Sings" tracks on UYI where I could hold the fast-forward button down to the second to skip. CDs make that much easier.

We will see a GNR reunion tour before its said and done. Van Halen co-existed with David Lee Roth and there's way more tension and hatred amongst those guys.

Axl is a head case but keep everyone in separate buses and meet only on stage.

The first concert I ever went to was Stone Temple Pilots at the Marcus Amphitheater in Milwaukee on July 4, 1994. Fourteen years to the day later, July 4, 2008, I saw Stone Temple Pilots at the Marcus Amphitheater in Milwaukee.

Neat, huh?
