Wow. Even when you're the king of Jordan, DELAWARE IS farkING BORING.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2009-04-22 05:49:43 PM
I knew a couple of folks up in Greenville, SC that serviced his father's plane every time he came to the US. He always had his jet stop there, and he knew every workers first name, their wives names, and their kids names and was generally regarded by them as a really good man. I get the sense he raised his son pretty well, too.

Friday's does have tasty food.

His dad's widow was on the Colbert Report a couple weeks ago. Seemed like a pretty cool lady.

He must have been looking to outfit their submarines.

Awesome.

This seems a 50-50 mix of seeing what "regular America" is like, which is actually interesting for us foreigners (really) and sucking up to Joe Biden.

Two birds, one stone.

FTFA: About 10 people pulled up to the restaurant riding motorcycles -- including the king That must have been a sight--the King of Jordan, some entourage, and Secret Service agents all rolling up to TGIFridays on Harleys.

I wonder if they gave him one of those little pager thingies to alert him when his table was ready.

Also, I'm kind of disturbed that this article didn't have any mention of Queen Rania.

A real article about anyone from Jordan should talk about Queen Rania for five paragraphs and then at the end summarize "King Abdullah II was also in the United States today, visiting a Delaware screen-door factory and eating lunch at TGI Fridays. Queen Rania was not there."

Kings are people, too, and sometimes you just need some loaded potato skins.

FTA: But, he said, "They were about as inconspicuous as Mount Everest would be if you put it in Kent County."

Yes. 590 square miles of land does pale in comparison to Mount Everest.

I wonder what I would visit if I were the King of Jordan, I'd be curious about THE THING in Arizona but I would probably bypass it. A water park might be tempting. Who am I kidding, I'd head straight for the Museum of Slightly Anthromorphic Driftwood and never look back. I wouldn't apologize either. I'd go to a lot of weddings too, you know the whole first rights thing and all. But I wouldn't be a prick King of Jordan, I'd only consumate with a PSYCH! and a "don't go changing, stay foxy, seriously though you crazy kids have some fun tonight."

I'd hit up some breweries and a strip club. When in Rome...

Never under estimate the temptation of The Thing. So much awesome!

King Abdullah is quite cool. He had a cameo appearance as a crewman on "Star Trek Voyager" early on in the show's run. Because he's not a member of SAG he was not allowed any speaking lines. IIRC, he was talking to Ensign Kim when Neelix interrupted, and walked away. I would, too.

The king of Jordan is a chintzy tipper

FTFA:
"They tipped royally, $64 for the tea and coffee, Gentry said."

then later in the article....

Trott, who said the entourage spent nearly $600 on the meal, also could not believe royalty graced his restaurant.

I'd really really hope that a royal tip would at least be more than 15%.

Weak sauce, Your Majesty.

King Abdullah is one of the better speakers I've ever seen, he was on Charley Rose a few times back when I watched it, brilliant guy. Watching him talk you quietly get the impression that he'd happily abdicate the throne if only he just weren't so freaking awesome at it. His dad too from what I remember.

Prince Alwaleed from Saudi Arabia is also a good speaker. In his case though, you listen to him and go "Why oh why can't you be in charge?"

I always feel sorry for King Abdullah. King Hussein was a class act, and when he died, the attitude seemed to be "Ah, yes, Abdullah. Nice fellow, but he's too boring to be King."

And so far, except for Queen Rania, nothing disproves that.

They could have Taft-Hartleyed him if they wanted him to have a line.

That's awesome. How many TV shows can say they had a king appear in an episode?

Iran had a moderate and realist leader, back in 1953.

You can rest assured that Jordan's King probably thanks God every single day for not putting any oil under Jordan.
