May 14 - Seattle, WA @ El Corazon

This place holds like 50 people, and is usually local punk rock.

I'd go to watch 'em.

So you've listened to their songs or you've just heard from a guy that did? They have three tracks online to solidify your opinion if you haven't.

Yes it sounds like Van Hagar; how could it not with not only Sammy but MA singing backup? Satch sounds good, not as ridiculously out front as he normally is. Chad is unsurprisingly solid... always has been. If you hate Sammy Hagar... skip it!

I'd pay to see them.

It's like all the dregs from overhyped bands got together to steal money from the concert-going public. Bonus "sad"-tag points for Rolling Stone working overtime as their publicist.

I saw it on here a few weeks back. Farkers have somehow figured out how to hate a band they've never heard more than Nickelback. Technology is amazing.

I'm interested in hearing this band. I've always wanted to see Satch in a band context, and while I don't care for Sammy, he's a great frontman.

nothingyet 2009-04-22 12:56:10 PM
Sammy "The Red Rocker" Hagar is a blast to watch live if you have never seen him. Add Michael Anthony and Chad Smith from the Chili Peppers, you have a high-energy fun show to watch. SAD tag poorly misused subby.

CHicken Foot Song --- "Oh Yeah" (new window)

Not terrible, but not all that and of bag chips.

soap on a rope

a little more grovin' + blues feel, but, again, not so great ...

i give this project a big "could have been cool but it's a big MEH"

Five Tails of Fury 2009-04-22 01:39:22 PM
I saw Satriani live once back in the early '90s, he was awesome. Hagar's a hell of a showman, and the rhythm section is solid. Had I not already blown my concert budget for May, I'd have tried to get in to the Commodore show. (Capacity's about 900 there, for the record - not huge, but not bad)

/preferred Van Hagar
//sorry

MensRea 2009-04-22 01:44:23 PM
Why is this "sad", subby? Even if you haven't heard a Chickenfoot song, every one of the members is a known quantity.

And how often do "established" bands played new songs in concert that had not yet previously been released?

Hell, wish I had the chance to see them before the album came out.

Regardless of looks, one made much better music on a more consistent basis than the other. And Van Hagar was not that one.

Anyways, no dice for me. Got ripped off by the Chili Peppers at a benefit concert Flea put together that cost a shiatload($100ish supporting some medical shiat) when they bugged out way early(barely made it through a few songs) because the guitarists vagina got too sandy from some audio issues and onstage arguments with the guitar tech. On the plus side, got to see a really cool rendition of Civil War from SOAD and Kirk Hammet played a song or two with them as well on guitar. Pity Hammet didn't stick around to fill in for RHCP.

I met Satriani at the 1987 NAMM show. He was on the cover of "Guitar Player" magazine that month. My douchebag ex-husband saw Joe and got all moist. My ex also just happened to have that same copy of "Guitar Player" with him. He hands me the magazine and begs me to go get Joe's autograph (because he was too shy to do it himself - sheesh).

Joe was backed against the wall with two "suits" on either side of him. They had him cornered. I stood far enough away to not interrupt, but at the same time close enough where Joe could see I wanted the autograph. After several minutes one of the "suits" turns to me and says, "Get lost kid, we're talking business." That's when Joe stepped up and told the "suits" to get lost. Joe was very nice, and my ex-husband got his precious autograph.

Meh it's a matter of opinion. VHalen was juvinille cock-rock. VHagar, while not being so energetic, is, on the whole much more mature music.

The fun part is that this bad of reject washed-up has-beens gets good ink because everything else being released blows chunks.

The record companies haven't learned a damn thing from itunes.

and the park west? thats like playing in someone's apartment.

Hate Spammy and the rest all you want, that right thar be some good music. Better than anything VH has done in years, great organic grooves. Rock on, geezers!

Ball of Confusion: The record companies haven't learned a damn thing from itunes.

They're on Redline; I don't think that counts as one of the majors; their website denotes no link to Warner or Sony or whatever. If this was manufactured by some exec, I'd see your point, but from what I can tell you're simply saying "old men... no more rocking now, I don't care who your friends are."

There are some really small venues on this warm-up tour; you're right. Better than not being able to handle their sh*t and not finding out until they were in front of an arena, a la the Police. I couldn't believe it when I read that.

puckhead 2009-04-22 02:57:31 PM
bah.. I'm pissed I missed out on getting tickets to the Commodore show.
In an arena, I wouldn't be as interested, but that should be a terrific show.

I've never been of fan of Sammy Hagar, Van Halen or RHCP. However, I am a HUGE fan of Joe Satriani. I'll be interested to hear what it sounds like, I guess.

I usually bypass these when I'm out for dim sum. Never been into that...I gotta have my spring rolls, siu mai, har gao, and char siu bao, however.

However, I might give these guys a listen if Joe Satriani is involved.

Rock n roll was MEANT to be juvenile. Who wants to listen to mature rock? If you're too mature for rock, you switch genre, otherwise you're just listening to gay crap, for the most part

PerfectlyCromulent 2009-04-22 04:11:03 PM
I just listened to a couple of their songs on YouTube, and they ain't half bad. I would definitely see them live given the chance. I haven't heard a lot of Satch's stuff, but he seems a lot better in an actual band than on solo records.

Don't bite... he's just participating in a pissing contest because he had to go anyway. There is no union between any of the bands except some are old and some are new. Well, actually all of the first three have members that are now dead.

halo_of_flies 2009-04-22 04:53:45 PM
When Van Halen first came out I thought they had potential but I hated the singer and the drummer. That opinion never changed. I was a huge Montrose fan as well, so the addition of Sammy Hagar could have only been an improvement in my opinion. True, they lost a bit of the fire but they gained melody and maturity. That is what Eddie said he was writing for at the time and Roth just didn't have the chops.

Arn_Dee 2009-04-22 05:44:52 PM
Pretty good stuff. If they came to my city then I'd go see 'em.
