Take Sharpton with him, that asshole is a bigger problem than Jesse. At least Jesse used to be a good person back in the 60's

Sorry, this thread is about Jesse Jackson, an infinitely more successful attention whore than you.

LasersHurt 2009-04-22 09:01:32 AM
I agree with you on that, Podna. He used to be someone whose positions were extremely relevant, and he did help publicize and change some important things.

As of late, he's been a loud, partisan hack with Jesus on his shoulder. Maybe we can send New Jesse, keep Old Jesse.

Now now, let's be fair; both are absolutely ridiculous.

globalwarmingpraiser: THIS

For a guy who's pretty inane, he manages to really irk the Right.

Jesse Jackson, at points in his life, has given some really good speeches, but other than that, his major contribution to the American culture is having an American icon die in his arms. He's the Paul to MLK's Jesus. He tries, but you can tell he's a peon in the shadow of giants.

But I still fail to understand the level of vitriol hurled in his direction.

He is a douchebag, who is treated like a great man. Jesse Jackson is a disgrace and has mastered the art of the shakedown.

Yes, he is. But if he manages to get this woman out of prison, I'll take back every bad thing I've said about him.

/Not holding my breath

You give the man more credit than warrants. I find his detractors to be more peculiar than the man.

Kinda like those obsessed with Chavez.

There's a mechanism operating here I don't understand.

Now Al Sharpton is going to have to find a higher profile hostage to rescue.

Probably waiting for the next pirate abduction.

no trade-backs

Anyone else read that as "no trade-black?"

Nina_Hartley's_Ass 2009-04-22 09:19:03 AM
He's helped recover hostages before and this is probably the most useful purpose he can serve at this point.

The man is like the Anti Jimmy Carter. I dislike Carters politics, but he does good things for the purpose of doing good things. Jackson never does this stuff without a cadre of press. That is why he pisses so many people off. He has done a lot of harm to civil rights by being willing to scream racism every time a white person does something and a black person suffers. Even when it turns out the white person is completely innocent, they are still wrong because they were born with a light skin tone.

Sure, why discuss the actual utility of the proposal when people can just hurl ad hominems at the guy?

We're addressing the utility of his proposal. He trades himself for the journalist, we get the journalist back, and then move before the abductors realize they got stuck with Jesse Jackson and try to give him back.

Sarcasm? He offered to go there and appeal for her release. He's been able to do it before. Just ask LT Robert Goodman, among others.

His career over the last ten years has been to lambast people who drop the N-bomb, but he has in the past had no problem dropping racial slurs against jews, and has used the n-bomb himslef.

He has to take Al Sharpton with him.

We do not need the race baiters here anymore now that America has been healed.

Nothing Jackson has done is of particular note -- the stuff you just listed is milquetoast. Inanity. There are others of much stronger stuff that make money off of being hypocritical twits -- that don't get universally panned -- and don't even do it under the guise of something good.

The Right pays him an inordinate amount of attention.

That is the point, he acts like he is doing a good thing by performing his crap.

Yeah, most self-described martyrs are like that. I checked his Wiki and was kinda surprised that, on the same trip where he rescued Bobby Goodman, he was accompanied by Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan. That is one trifecta I'd love to see get lost.

Our enemies often see Jackson as a representative of "victims of US oppression", which puts him in opposition to the US government. They can negotiate with him without appearing to cave in to US pressure. It's back-door diplomacy and I'm surprised all these fans of "realpolitik" have such a problem with the concept.

/must be the butthurt...

I think Assad thought he'd get better mileage out of using Jackson than he did, but one of the more brilliant moves of Reagan was in taking the piss when Jackson got that flyer out of Syria. White House ceremony, lauded Jackson as a good man and a patriot, etc.

Maybe Jessie will offer to cut Barrack's nuts off as part of the negotiation process.
