This is a vital accessory that no-one should be without. For any and all sensitive files, not just one's porn collection.

Though I haven't tried installing Linux onto a USB stick (loading an ISO image using Unetbootin is easy), I can imagine it's not hard. Similarly for creating an encrypted partition: haven't done it, but there's probably a FAQ out there I could muddle through.
It would be sweet if there was a distro with all this preset, that simply prompts you for passwords on first boot.

The thing I'm curious about is how did you transfer your sensitive files on there if it doesn't mount the local hard drives?
Did you have to do file transfers over the network?
Or did you start from nothing and build up a whole new collection of pron?

Some of my friends in college used to put porn other people's unsecured computers as pranks. It was amusing to see how fast you could get tons of images with just one quick google search and save them all to the hard drive. And the Windows XP option when viewing an image to "set as desktop" can make even 10 seconds access fun.

An easy way to remember it is to think of "finite."

I agree with incompetence. Any IT director would know about snooping software and file monitoring. They don't even need to find stuff on your hard drive, just show a log of where you have been. If there is no log then someone with an external drive uploaded to the machine.
Also any smart IT guy who is in charge of policy would use a multiple partition Linux OS and make the city send the drive out for forensic investigation. Make em work for it.
