that PIXIES reunion a few years back was everything i could've hope for. I doubt they could've performed better in their 20s. It was awesome... also, they werent pushing a new, boring album, so it was nothing but greatness

Agreed. It was just all the hits (they even did the "Lady In the Radiator" song from eraserhead, with Kim singing!)

the pixies were awful, frank black solo ruled until he decided to become old and a rolling stones ripoff. that is all.

Pixies were the greatest American rock band ever. You know it's farking true.

You'd have to be a major douchebag to buy this disaster.

/Bought Doolittle with my sister when it came out. We split the cost of the tape and made copies of it... for some reason, she got to keep the original.

//Saw them live in the day as well as D.C. in '04.

///This release is stupid. Just buy the albums if you want the music.. this repacking crap is crap.

////whoever said Bossnova was expendable is a tone-deaf douchebag as well. "Rock Music" alone was enough to seal that album in the classic column.

//lawn.. off.

Barton Fink: Leave out Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde and offer a discount!

I don't think so. Bossanova is my favorite album (still skip some of the songs though), and the first half of Trompe Le Monde was great.

it's just repackaging.
the same masters.
boourns.

In case there are any vinyl fans here who also happen to like the Pixies, their entire catalog is cheap and easy to find now that they've been reissued. I wasn't the biggest fan of Bossanova until I started spinning it on my record player regularly, now it just might be my favorite.

I think I'm the only person out here that would have preferred a FB & The Catholics reunion than the Pixies....

Black Francis and the Pixies were the most influential band of the 1980's or 1990's. Without them Nirvana, Weezer, Radiohead and every 'alternative' band since 1994 would not have existed as we know them and we would have been listening to hair metal for three and a half years longer than we did while alternative would have been shoe-gazer noise that progressed to obscurity (NTTAWWT). Please show a bit of respect. That man is a rock god.

chucknasty: Black Francis and the Pixies were the most influential band of the 1980's or 1990's

Nonsense. Tom Waits is the mother of all music after 1985, and anyone making music after 1973 will claim him as their primary inspiration. He's the Kevin Bacon of music, but there are only ever 2 degrees of separation. For farks sake, I watched Hootie and The Blowfish go on about him and then rape "I hope that I don't fall in love with you" in the mid 90s.

Did they just jam out for a couple of hours after those two or three songs were finished or was it a really short show?

uglyredhonda 2009-04-22 12:27:52 AM
The whole "we don't wanna touch the masters" thing is nonsense. I've remastered a couple of Surfer Rosa songs for my own use, and it really helped improve the sound. The industry really didn't have any idea how to do CD mastering well in 1988. Which isn't to say that those albums sound bad - there's just plenty of room for them to sound better.

Plus, wasn't the last greatest hits release remastered?

Hey, it could be worse.

Meat Loaf covered "Martha".
Bob Seger covered "New Coat Of Paint".

One of my friends said once that the Pixies fit his criteria for a perfect band based on the members:

They had a girl, an Asian and a fat guy.

/Pixies FTW!

AND a magician!

I also third that request for a Frank/Catholics reunion. Teenager of the Year is probably in my top five albums of all time, heh.
