How do we know that they got particularly shiatty deals? It's not like they were Soul Asylum or the Spin Doctors....

Tesla girls, I'm guessing.

I liked OMD's "Dazzle Ships" LP album. that's about it.

supposedly Simple minds did this really dark post-punk/new wave album in the late 70's, black cover w/ white writing and it was supposed to be good, but i can never find it anywhere.

I'd like to see The Thompson Twins or Howard Jones on that bill.

both great bands. submitter is a gaytard.

I first thought it was OMC and that awful "How Bizarre" song. Wow, the late 90's sucked.

Well, to be fair, they didn't write the song, and didn't want to record it, but their record company pushed them to do it after Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol turned it down.

I got free tickets to a couple of these types of concerts the last few years. I was surprised at how good they sounded and performed (well seeing Missing Persons was not exactly a highlight but ABC was). Was just listening to Enola Gay last night. So far, Tears for Fears was the best concert I have seen so far in the oughts and I am not really for the nostalgia. They really knew how to work the audience and the musicianship was fantastic. Their new stuff blew away their old stuff. Would be interesting to see OMD crank it up again. If the Cure and Depeche can still tour and have teenage fans, OMD should certainly get their shot at it.

Totally agree. Tears For Fears was the best concert I've ever seen. They're a fantastic band.

Sweet! I'm seeing TFF in concert this summer - totally looking forward to it.

I love Simple Minds. OMD, on the other hand, sucks with the power of 1,000,000 supercharged streetsweepers.

Real To Real Cacophony I assume. Worthy of your attention for sure. Here's a track for you to sample...

Changeling (new window)

Simple Minds fall from grace was about as spectacular as it gets IMHO.

YES!!!!
that's the title!

thanks for the link!
that was awesome.
sounds like it's from 1979 ish
but it also sounds modern in a modern-retro kind of way.
i like it.

If you like that then also pick up "Empires and Dance", "Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call" and "New Gold Dream". Good stuff.

Tears for Fears - Songs from the Big Chair tour was awesome

Between this and the ABC, Wang Chung and Berlin tour, I'm feeling good.

i love the early stuff from both bands, don't get me wrong, but omd and simple minds both made about 5 too many albums. seriously, i cannot believe a band with such a promising early career could spiral so completely into a vortex of shiat. and it happened with both of them.

/i will also add that sm's "live: in the city of light" is a fantastic set. i can listen to it again and again and again...
