Marty DiBergi: Do you feel that playing rock 'n' roll music keeps you a child? That is, keeps you in a state of arrested development?

David Coverdale: No. No. No. I feel it's like, it's more like going, going to a, a national park or something. And there's, you know, they preserve the moose. And that's, that's my childhood up there on stage. That moose, you know.

Marty DiBergi: So when you're playing you feel like a preserved moose on stage?

David Coverdale: Yeah.

Nice of him to answer the question I thought of while reading the first part of the headline in the second part: David Coverdale.

Hmmmm. I don't know.

But if you've actually listened to some clips of Whitesnake's latest album (which I don't recommend you do), it's pretty clear that Coverdale's pipes are shot.

Let's get this out of the way right now...

To be fair, he HAS worked with some pretty fine musicians...Tommy Bolin, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Glenn Hughes, Steve Vai, Roger Glover, Simon Phillips, Cozy Powell, Aynsley Dunbar, Jimmy Page, Guy Pratt...

/Thanks, Wikipedia.

Doctor Jan Itor 2009-04-20 08:22:27 AM
Would he lie to us? I'm not a fool for his miming no more.

/90% of his songs have "love" in the title. Sheesh.

tequilasundae 2009-04-20 08:43:41 AM
whitesnake's 'hits' were songs he already did in the 70's and early 8o's, he just fired his bands , and rerecorded them, subbing the band members for more 'glam' guys. When their biggest album broke, he fired that whole band , and left adrian vandenberg in (player of the lousiest solo in christendom), and filmed videos with those guys. Is he cheesy, sure . Derivative? YES.
Do I still crank his tunes...shiat yeah

Christi: We'll just get this video out of the way now.

Why Christi, WHY?

/OK, I know why but still. I have to go wash the stink of that off with 6 hours of Slayer.

Yes, but how does he respond to accusations that he does a two-bit imitation of Robert Plant on stage?

Yeah, but Blackmore has worked with everybody. I think that he's added four more musicians to the list that he's worked with in the time that it took to post this.

/not sure that Page counts either
//that was pretty clearly a ruse to get back with Robert Plant

Nah! Bought the album. Wasn't that bad but the clash of the titanic egos was evident.

On another note, Coverdale's best before date has passed. but so has Jagger's, Bowie's, Ozzie's, Slayer's, White Lion's and even (Gasp!) Robert Plant's

Plant knows this- That is why there will never be a Zep reunion. He is smart enough to know that there are tribute bands that are more capable of sounding like Led Zepplin in their heyday than they are. He seems to be enjoying playing with Alison Kraus (sigh!).

Whitesnake is playing up here this summer, I'll probably be there.
But I go knowing the obvious.

White Lion? Really? In the same example as Bowie, Jagger, Slayer and Plant? You might has well have thrown the The Romantics in there, for chrissakes!

I had a copy of it once upon a time, and yes, there was some listenable stuff on there. But even at the time it seemed to me like he was doing it to aggravate Plant into the Page & Plant reunion.

A few of Whitesnake's best songs, in no particular order:

Slow and Easy (new window)

Slide It In (new window)

Still of The Night (new window)

i haven't read Pitchfork in a long, long time. many years. they are farking douchebags, for the most part.

I use Pandora alot. I live in florida right now so that doesn't do shiat.

also I buy from Insound which typically has a really nice selection of picks.

hipster isn't what i would consider myself but the music does have a little of that edge to it.

/ yeah, i like daft punk, too

You mean that even in his prime he couldn't hit 90% of the notes he recorded? Like Plant?

UnrepentantApostate 2009-04-20 04:42:08 PM
I saw in interview of him where he was talking about making the video for "Here I Go", and he said of the woman who gyrates on the cars (I forget her name right now) "She turned my blood to wine".

Seriously? Blood to wine? I didn't know there were people who spoke like that seriously. Pair that with his image and his accent, and I think you have a man who decided that he was going to be the congolmeration of every Harlequin romance novel cover ever.

That said, his music is pretty biatchen.

H31N0US 2009-04-20 04:53:04 PM
UnrepentantApostate: the woman who gyrates on the cars (I forget her name right now)

Tawney Kittain or something like that. Professional groupie (i.e. vagina for hire) and b list actress.

The only worthwhile music Whitesnake ever released was because of John Sykes involvement. The sad thing was that he either left or was booted after recording that first big album and before its release. They even put Vivian Campbell (from Dio) in the videos.

How does Robert Plant respond to accusations that live Robert Plant does a 3rd-rate imitation of studio Robert Plant and wears shirts designed for 14 year old girls on stage?

Bought this vinyl on record store day and imo is the best since Lost Souls. The Kraftwerk homage on the first song is pure win.

Cheers.

Gotta get this one myself. Cheers for the review.

I loved Lost Souls and was less than thrilled with their last record, I'll have to check out the new one. Thanks for the tip!
