No matter what the GOP blathers about, people aren't buying it. Perhaps that regional minor party ought to re-evaluate before they disappear entirely from national politics.

Let's all remember that those numbers will change. He'll have his ups and downs, same as any other President. There's good news though--it seems as though the national influence of the Republican Noise Machine is waning and damn near dead. I expect numbers like this from a representative cross-section of America, given that his performance has been relatively good so far. The far right has gone as far as attempting to astroturf "mass" protests (not all that large by most standards, but they tried) just a few months into his presidency, but America isn't allowing themselves to be led astray. That's good stuff on any number of levels.

Fully 70% say they have a great deal or a fair amount of confidence in him to do the right thing when it comes to fixing the economy. By comparison, 55% have confidence in congressional Democratic leaders and only 38% have confidence in Republican leaders in Congress. Majorities also believe the president's policies will both improve economic conditions (66%) and reduce the budget deficit over time (54%).

Uh oh, looks like you guys have some more teabagging in your future! The message doesn't appear to be getting out for some strange reason.

Well, given that your three not-farkups listed are "killing Arabs, killing Arabs, and boycotting Arabs", I rather suspect your list is:

1-30: Not killing more Arabs

(And, yeah, Durban is bullshiat, but come the fark on)

Um, so are you acknowledging that Rush Limbaugh and Fox News = Republican party? Because if not, there's nothing to indicate that the death of the far right's hate network will lead to one party rule. I would love for there to be a legitimate opposition party in America, because I'm not on board with everything in the Democratic party platform. I just don't want that opposition party to be ruled by nutjobs and retards in approximately equal measure...

One party rule FTW!

It won't be a one party. If the Republican party completely fails and turns into a very minor party, then a new party will emerge (or the Democratic party will split).

Not if Meghan McCain has anything to say about it.

Granted, she'll be shouted down by dittoheads, but I thought I'd throw your hilariously wrong comment a lifeline.

A Dark Evil Omen 2009-04-19 12:33:37 PM
I agree that we need a proper opposition party, but... the Republicans only support the things that the Democrats already do wrong. I would rather see the Republicans disappear and the Dems split either their left or right-wing faction off as the new party so we can actually have some balance.

Not that having only two viable national parties is even desirable, but it does seem to be what the US is stuck with.

I strongly doubt he could easily give 15.

5 ish - cabinet or other selected choices
5 ish - poor responses on economy/gaffes
5 ish - foreign leader gaffes - PM gifts, the bow, etc.
hmmm. damn. I'm having trouble getting past 15, and I'm using pretty damn general categories. Of course it all depends on what level you break things down at; I'm sure some of his mistakes could be split into 10 small ones, or 1 overarching one. Also is a minor blunder worth the same as a major one?

In general, he's made a number of fairly good decisions, including the CIA memos - he managed to appease most of the left while at the same time not overly displeasing the right. Whether it was a good thing to do tactically, I'm not sure. Politically and ideologically, it was.

The American lifestyle requires some hard choices. Choices which we usually don't want to hear. Do we support a dictator or work with a country which has horrid human rights issues so we can get cheap crap at WalMart? Do we interfere with other's politics so that we can get cheap resources? Do we spend billions and some American lives so that we can make sure a genocide doesn't occur?

And after choosing the moral thing on all of these, what do we do with our economy?

/hard core obama supporters are far biatchier than Bush supporters.
//Bush had to mention God occasionally. Obama has to stop all American oppression of any kind, while at the same time make sure the economy doesn't disintegrate.
