Sure, except Austin is full of college kids, techies, and weirdos. The cowboy gear would make you stick out.

Man!!! Don't post those statistics here... We'll be overrun with migrants from Illinois looking for work in no time...

Uh, no it's not. Western, sure.

Houston FTW, again.

I'd move to the Austin area in a heartbeat. San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, not so much. West Texas, not a farkin' chance.

Austin sucks. You wouldn't want to live there.

Really to pretty much anywhere in the world. India is looking good.

dictyboy: As someone with many friends and family in Texas, I'd sooner take a job in hell.

That's an odd coincidence, because us Texans would rather you go to Hell instead of coming here as well.

Oh, and what do you mean "new" superiority?

Newcomers to Texas don't get to have "old" superiority - they're new to the state, see?

Ummm...actually, it was just stolen from the Indians like the rest of the country. The Mexicans (actually, the Spanish at the time) didn't give a shiat about Texas. It wasn't until Stephen F. Austin and a bunch of other white guys came here that anyone paid attention.

BunkyBrewman [TotalFark] 2009-04-19 11:24:18 AM
Remember Texas, if you do secede, you don't get to play in the NFL, MLB, NBA NHL and Big 12.

You'll have to play with yourself.

Yes, because what happened 150 years ago really says something about the quality of the place now.

Many of my closest friends have moved to Austin over the past few years. Once my son's a little older, I'm thinking about heading out there myself.

not sure where you were going with the bush comment, but i'd like to gently remind all of you that g-dub was not born here. he is from connecticut. so basically, he is a perfect example of what happens when a yankee comes down here and tries to play "texan".

Not true - We have NHL teams from Canada, eh? The Cowboys bring too much money into the NFL for them to not let them continue to play. In fact, that's probably true for the Big 12 as well.

Dammit, don't tell people. I LIKE living somewhere that still has a good job market.

God, if we secede we're going to have an immigration problem on both of our borders.

I've seen many a job posted in Texas. But my desire to go is slim at best. I've heard some okay things about Austin, but that's about it.

Still hoping for the Vegas job to come thru.

I hate Texas because the gayest franchise in the history of sports, the Dallas Cowboys, reside there.

Keep thinking Romo is the answer. And that the new Roy Williams won't be as big of a disappointment as the old Roy Williams.

You need to play the Raiders game and just wait for your owner/GM to die to become relevant again.

HAHA

I'm not sure how accurate that is. We had a Canadian Football League team for a while. And the NHL lets in plenty of Canadian teams. Not sure national borders mean that much.

/ Not that I want to compare Texas with Canada or anything.
// Also note that an independent Texas would make a stronger argument for football as an olympic sport.

Out of 25 million Texans, less than 100 of them are Dallas Cowboys.

Odd timing. Ive been working on this for months and Austin is the very first stop on my "journey to find a new job and a new life in a city that sucks less than KC."

The new job part might be kinda tough (although i do have lots of useful skills).
The new life part should be pretty easy as i dont require much.
The city that sucks less than KC is simple, EVERY city sucks less than KC.

0Icky0 2009-04-19 11:41:05 AM
I had to work there for six months last year, and it wasn't as bad as I expected.

Pros:
- Jesus fish stickers give fair warning of what people to avoid.
- Open roads for motorcycling.
- 10 months of not too cold. Just one of too hot.
- Friendly people, if you don't get into politics.

Cons:
- Way the fark too many pick up trucks that have never and will never pick up anything except little Madison from school.
- A hell of a lot of wobble-bottoms. Try the salad.
- George W Bush moved back there.

Bwahaha 2009-04-19 11:41:05 AM
A couple of observations:

first, Only a$$holes and wannabes wear cowboy boots.

second, Nobody wants to remember that cattle herders were called cowBOYS because most of them were emancipated slaves, and were not called MEN until a long time post emancipation.

third, arrogance is unnecessary, even in Texas.

go placidly, blah, blah, blah

If by gayest, you mean one of the most successful, okay. I still don't think a single NFL team has won as many games as the Cowboys have since they entered the NFL. They're also the most valuable. And still the most popular. Have been to the most Superbowls and are tied with the second most wins. So, unless your team manages to be better in all of the categories, I guess you can suck their big, gay todger.

atlas spanked 2009-04-19 11:42:03 AM
Texas is just a cross between Brokeback Mountain and the Village People. Total gay cowboy costume party....with gunz = wasteland.

Which is why Texans overrun Colorado and Utah with their jeeps and quadrunners every time the weather gets good.

/But, to be fair, they're not quite as arrogant as Mainers or Alaskans.

pascoffee 2009-04-19 11:43:01 AM
We are yankees but live in texas now. I know we will never be Texans but I really love our home. It took 3 years to get a decent job here.
