I think even Zeus might have thought twice before going after a furry.

Who says it was Zeus? My money's on Hera...

She's a real biatch. Zeus just probably sent out for a call girl, Hera got wind of it and laid down the pwnage...

(FYI - You can see said story of stupid chick who stood up on Raven at Holiday World park several years ago here - http://www.rideaccidents.com/2003.html#may31 )

"It was just a horrible scenario, a bad deal," he said.

Wonder why they print quotes like that? It's not really rocket surgery to figure that part out. It might be newsworthy if he'd said 'fark her if she can't take a joke. I didn't like her anyway, but I've had my eye on her two kids."... but they hardly ever say that.

It's like when a weather report says to be aware of frigid temperatures during the snowstorm tonight, or witnesses reported that the 12 car pileup was horrendous. Ya think, Sherlock?

Sheesh...

I just went up Grandeur Peak today with my girlfriend and we didn't even think about crampons..

I haven't had the chance to hike Mt. Olympus yet but it is on the to do list.. Sad..

Oh and the entire time I was reading the article I couldn't help but think about the episode of Family Guy where Peter claims to be Poseidon and then Poseidon shows up and says " No your not, and you know nothing of what I do.." or something like that...

After googling I'm very surprised and relieved crampons have nothing to do with insertion into the genitalia

I can understand trying to get out there and push the envelope a little. But to put yourself in a position to fall however many feet and then actually falling to your death is quite another.

Unless you are after the world championship for a million. Is it worth risking your life?

Gyrfalcon [TotalFark] 2009-04-19 03:05:17 AM
Usually you have to do something pretty awesomely bad, like ripping off Apollo's chariot or trying to gain entry into Olympus itself before Zeus hurls you from the top.

I'm guessing Hera caught the Big Guy giving her the once-over as an eagle or something and cut her anchor.

Well since the choice was between that, or Zeus turning into a bull and having sex with her, well I think we can all admit that neither of those are particularly high on our list of ways we'd like to go out.

Submittard sucks at reading comprehension. The fall was 1000 ft, not 300 ft. The correct headline is even front page on Yahoo news.

Pretend quote from Holding while getting equipped:"Crampons and rope are too expensive, not to mention a qualified mountaineer. We'll be fine."

FTFA: Holding is the son of billionaire Earl Holding, the owner of Sinclair Oil Corp., the Little and Grand America hotels, Sun Valley ski resort in Idaho and Utah's Snowbasin resort.

"Hiker falls to her death from Utah's Mount Olympus. Mormon Zeus wanted for questioning"

OscarTamerz 2009-04-19 01:01:29 PM
Mt. Olympus has a series of ravines which hold snow fields for an extraordinarily long time. I tried climbing it in May one year and came to a rather wide snow field that ended in a field of 6 to 10 foot boulders several hundred feet down. The snow was very hard and compacted and we didn't have any crampons or ice axes because it's in the middle of a freaking desert so it would have been a long slippery slide of death to the bottom. I ventured out a few feet on all fours and it was even worse than it looked. Though we were over an hour into the climb we had no trouble turning back and driving up Little Cottonwood and hiking up to Dog Lake instead.

Dude, you are never going to become a Fark headline if you behave like that. Never.

Very apt name for the mountain.
