Personally, I loves me some gin.

So what, I have to drink an "...and Tonic" now or a "... Martini" or a "... and Cranberry"?

I'd rather stay sober.

What is in is not caring about what other people think about what you drink.

Good. Vodka does not go in a martini.

This, and Mezcal was never "out". I cringe when I see people drinking Jose.

tfa: The best of these is a cocktail contrived by Boston's Jackson Cannon. The Heather in Queue cocktail is 1½ ounces of gin, three-quarters of an ounce of bianco (that is, nondry white) vermouth, half an ounce of Grand Marnier, and a quarter ounce of Fernet-Branca, served straight up.

That might be good. I have bitters, but no fancy ones like Fernet-Branca. I've got everything else though. Might have to try it tonight with some ordinary bitters and see how it goes.

Fark that. Vodak rules, right after Gin. Those 2 are the most merciful in the morning... With Vodak and Gin, your liver's still your friend (at least for the first 30 years)

This. I don't give a shiat about what drinks are "in". I loves me my Screwdrivers, Rum-and-Cokes and Long Island Iced Teas, as well as beer, of course.

Seriously, this mezcal is better than ANY scotch I have ever had.

Best spirit ever, no lie

They dig huge pits, put the agave pinas in with hot coals, palm shoots, etc. Cover & let bake in earthen dutch oven.

They dig up the caramelized mass a few days later, crush, ferment, then distill.

The smoke, earth & agave notes ~ AHHH .. best liquor on the planet.

I just got home from my job at the liquor store, and I can assure you that vodka is still "in".

/as are wine, Whisky (Canadian, American, Irish), Gin, Tequila, Rum, Scotch, Schnapps, Liqueurs, Mixers and pre-mixed drinks like margaritas and daiquiris, Brandy, and Cognac of every nationality and variety available
//a Pomegranate Martini is not what is listed there... It is Smirnoff (or other brand) Pomegranate Vodka and Pama (or DeKuyper or comparable) Pomegranate Liqueur, optional topping of cheap sparkling wine, and optional float of pomegranate seeds. Putting in 9 different ingredients and calling it a martini is gullible people falling for expensive crap.
///Oh, and this sort of snobbery should be stopped... How many stupid people truly listen to them? Hmmm, guessing by today's sales receipts, not many.

Pisco.

I used to be able to take a ten minute walk and get it straight from the distillery. Cocktail, mixed with Michigan raspberry liquor, sugar on the rim... I miss that place so effing much.

If you're in Colorado, Leopold Brothers, Farkers. You lucky, lucky bastards. Damn, I miss it.

bobbette: What is in is not caring about what other people think about what you drink.

Yes. I feel like judging based on alcohol preference is like judging based on favorite color. And besides, mine changes all the time--sometimes it's wine, sometimes it's beer, sometimes it's liquor--just as long as it's inexpensive.

Hooray for Gin! I wish Ukrainians believed in alcohol diversity...besides the 50 different kinds of vodka they have. (I'm living in Ukraine right now)

Also I was under the impresion that Mezcal is simply tequila with a worm. But I get the feeling that this might be an incorrect assumption.

I think the "demise" of vodka is only real among people who care about trends. The average person doesn't care what "experts" think or what some one thinks is hot.

For example, Martha Stewart could say that yellow is "hot" and all her fans would bury themselves in yellow. Everyone else wouldn't care.

Same thing with vodka.

I would agree with you and say that I enjoy a bottle of André from time to time, but I'm not sure if non-college students actually count that as champagne. However, in the spirit of non-judgment, I decided to share.

Want genuine mezcal that'll put hair on your ass with the first sip then burn it back off with the worst case of shiats short of E Coli poisoning? I've still got several bottles of this. Worst. shiat. Ever. I lost an entire day of my life over that crap with no recall whatsoever about where it went. I remember leaving Charlie's Cherry on Padre at 2AM... my next memory was the guy waking me up from under a booth seat in a KFC about a mile away at midnight the next day. Was about 3 bucks a bottle across the border in Mat. Price includes one caterpillar and several of it's little legs floating about.

i42.tinypic.com

For my mezcal needs, I kinda like Hacienda De Chihuahua Sotol. Got a bottle of white sitting next to my monitor atm. I remember putting it there.

i40.tinypic.com

Neither one should be confused with or referred to as 'tequila'.
