Well of course Chavez likes Obama. Chavez has always strongly supported socialist leaders like Castro, so why does his support of Obama really surprise anybody?

As long as the GOP remains this stupid, the Democrats will keep winning national elections, and the Republicans will become even more of a minor regional party in the U.S.

Because Obama isn't a socialist by any definition of the term, and Chavez has historically reached out only to fellow socialists.

Yes, someone spinning a rush comment.
Rush said that of course torture works since it worked on McCain.

Then some libtard spun it as 'rush approves of mccains torture"

tenpoundsofcheese: You are funny or delusional.

No, but you definitely are ignorant.

Venezuela has spent a great deal of money on charitable works in the United States. Chavez' regime is nightmarish for the middle and upper classes in Venezuela, but he isn't anti-Washington. He only became hostile after it came out that the CIA was at least somewhat involved in the 2002 coup attempt against him. With the passing of that particular bunch, he has no reason to be hostile to the United States any longer, so long as we don't interfere in his country's internal affairs.

That isn't true, he's reached out to many different styles of government. The US committed a coup against Chavez, and that sort of ruined their relationship.

All of the oil companies were asked, and only Chavez said yes. The reason is that the other oil companies are only concerned with profit, while a socialist government allows other considerations.

Let's face it: Chavez was smart. He was able to see what happened to other Central and South American countries that allowed the U.S. into their affairs, and he wanted no part of it. It was the most difficult and courageous move, but it was also the right move.

Exactly. The population of the united states thought Bush was a war criminal. The rest of the world thought Bush was a war criminal. Chavez thought Bush was a war criminal.

If anything, Chavez's critique of Bush was a much better representation that our own media's.

I wish that was true but it isn't. Chavez still allowed US organizations into Venezuela with a history of undermining democracy.

Bolivia did as well until recently (months ago).

Chavez continued against his best interests to allow the United States into the country.

I disagree with allowing the US in personally, and that's changed over the past several months.

He has discussed at length his problems with America. Most of them concern our domination of Latin America, and other countries in the world.

From our assassination of Salvador Allende in Chile, to our death squads in Latin America.

He doesn't have any problem with the countries freedom, or capitalism as it concerns domestic issues.

Only when it involves destroying other countries, particularly Latin America, but not limited to.
