She needed that cup of tea like she need another hole in her head.

While it's astonishing that she survived, I still don't understand why people who are going to commit suicide anyhow, don't just go ahead and kill themselves without killing other people first.

I mean come on. Just skip to the final step and don't hurt anybody else.

/why yes, I actually did RTFA.

Now he has another reason to shoot her again

No wonder she turned British: he gave her a quick short, sharp shock.

No telling if she was awaiting the sensation.

I think it probably has something to do with the fact that some people who are going to kill themselves are doing it because they think that others have wronged them and made their life miserable. Could be humanity in general.

FTFA: She is expected to make a full recovery, while her husband shot himself dead after the attack on his wife.

Ohhhh, subby, that img1.fark.net tag was just sitting on the bench, ready to be put in the game. You went with the veteran, but man, that kid was ready to play.

No, the guy was already on probation for domestic violence, and they were going to serve him up with a protective order. I guess he meant to take the coward's way out after he killed his wife, but she's alive and drinking tea, and he's in the boneyard. A satisfactory was for this to turn out.

Well, if you're on your way out anyway, it's a unique opportunity to do whatever you want without fear of punishment or consequences of any kind.

Most people probably do go quietly, since they don't have any perceived enemies (at least, none who they feel deserve death), but there will always be some who feel otherwise...

Her response was a sort of denial.

She made the tea and acted as if nothing had happened, that everything was normal, nothing to get upset about.

It was a sort of defense mechanism.

"Oh, my husband just shot me in the head, and killed himself, I think we should sit down and have a bit of tea, don't You? "

Classic.

Actually, I would argue for a "success" tag, as the person who really needed to die, died. The person who didn't deserve to die, stayed alive.

Too bad he wasted a bullet in the process. It would have been much more efficient if he had taken himself out, first.

If my wife walked around wearing maxi-pads on her head, I'd consider a Frontal lead lombodomy for her as well.

If you're not going to be alive to face the consequences of your action, you get to at least die with the final satisfaction of knowing that you took power over the person(s) who hurt you.

Unless you're this poor sap. He couldn't even do that.

Also, it seems likely to me that a lot of murder/suicides are crimes of passion, followed by a reflection that death is better than life in prison.

Methinks it was more likely outright shock than denial.

A [insert stereotypical race/region of stupid people here] robber was pinned down by a SWAT team after a foiled bank robbery. He was holed up with 3 hostages. The [insert stereotypical race/region of stupid people here] robber finally shouts out the window to police "I'M GONNA KILL MYSELF AND EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM!" He turns from the window and puts his gun to his temple. The hostages break out in laughter. The [insert stereotypical race/region of stupid people here] robber yells at them "What are you laughing about? You're next."

As many a person has discovered when they woke up in a wheel chair after failing to commit suicide, it's actually not as uncommon as you'd think to survive a shot to the head.

Yup, so coat the bullet in ricin before firing it, then take a bunch of sleeping pills before shooting yourself while sitting in the garage with the car running. Problem solved.

I'd be curious to see the scan image to see where it went. I look at MRI images everyday (some from Stroke or Tramatic Brain Injury). I know she had some sort of damage, it just didn't kill her. I guess she was old enough that she might have more space between her brain and her skull than normal (filled with CSF), and it could have passed mostly between the hemispheres. But, I'm sure it at least grazed the medial part of her brain between the hemispheres... could have knicked her somatosenory/motor cortex around the area where feet/genitalia are

or leg-foot of motor:

It probably would cause bilateral damage as well.

/very curious

I have a friend who was shot point-blank in the right temple during a mugging. The bullet followed the line of his lower jaw and exited through the other cheek. Apart from loosing most of his teeth he suffered very little trauma. He's the luckiest guy I know.

The ones who were never shot in the head are luckier.

I love how dipshiat Xtians like to claim some weird survival is a miracle from God but the millions of other victims of violence weren't worthy somehow. The 45k people a month dying in DRC surely could do for few miracles from god. Or maybe God only wants to save redneck hicks from the South.

Jesus,
As you have commanded me, if jshine and tarvuz (must have been tough coming up with those names) donate $100 to the church that is closest to where they live, you will bless them by having them win the lottery on the next dollar they spend.
If not, we will see them yappin' again on FARK.

The .44 Magnum is the most powerful handgun in the world - it could blow your head clean off.

Now Gordon, you've got to ask yourself one question, 'Do I feel lucky?.

Well, do ya, punk?

Yeah, I'm trying to trace a line through her head that doesn't destroy some major bits of cortex. Maybe it penetrated above the orbitofrontal area and passed through while doing some white matter damage? Unilateral damage to deep white matter tracts is better tolerated than cortex damage. Still, in through dorsolateral prefrontal, through the parietal, and out the occipital seems to be a fark-ton of tissue damage to still be up and around.
