Air mattresses can be hosed off -- they don't have to be cleaned in the laundry like sheets covering a spring mattress. Consider that each pound of linens takes about 3 gallons of water and an enormous amount of energy to process in the laundry, not to mention the chemicals, while you can wash down an air mattress with approx. 1 gallon of water per event with no chemicals. He's really doing the Earth a huge favor.

I used to work as a lifeguard at a MWR facility over in Naval Sub Base Bangor (actually right across the water from Ft. Lewis). I worked there for a few years, but one experience really reminds me of this story. I was closing down one night and the pool was pretty empty, when these three girls came in and stayed the last half an hour or so before we closed. Two of them weren't pretty by any means, but one wasn't too bad on the eyes, and they were fairly chill compared to some of our usual customers that frequented the place.

Right before we closed up shop, one of the ugly ones came up to me and asked me if I thought her relatively-pretty friend was cute. I said yeah, and she invited me over to her place for a couple of beers with her friends. So I agreed, closed up, walked out front and waited for the girls. That's when things got weird - as I waited with the fairly cute one, the other two girls wandered around the parking lot outside the pool and randomly approached guys in uniform and chatted with them for a bit. This went on for like fifteen minutes until both the ugly girls came back with a navy dude each. It didn't really occur to me what was happening until we got to their place.

So we get there right, settle down, open up some beers, introduce ourselves, and the ugly girls start taking turns taking their token navy guy to the backroom, with all the girls giggling about "going easy" on the fella they were dragging along. In the meantime, the remaining girl would sit around and talk about how the girl that I was with and I made such a cute couple - it was super creepy. To make matters worse, the girl I was with, upon further inspection and without the bonus of wearing a bikini, was really not all that pretty and had the personality of a wooden plank. By the time it got to me I had decided that I had better chances of avoiding an STD humping a public toilet* so I excused myself from the house and went home. The girl that I "went" with ended up stalking me for like two months after that. So weird.

And to top it all off, the place was owned by some chief petty officer whose daughter was one of the ugly girls, he was there the whole time and seemed perfectly fine with it. Yeesh.
