Normally-staid Wall Street Journal goes full WHAAAAAAAAAARGBL

What rock have you been hiding under since the News Corp. purchase subby?

cerote [TotalFark] 2009-04-18 10:01:28 AM
The editorial board is a batch of loonies. The reporters, pretty staid, even though the topics are getting dumbed-down.

No shiat. WSJ is still milking credibility from decades of being an actual 'staid' financial journal. But the transformation to agenda mouthpiece is complete, and sooner or later it will only be credible with the types who actually enjoy getting their information from sources they sympathize with. Interestingly, this may actually boost circulation. It's the entire reason 'right' media is so successful.

He's appealing to the Minnesota Supreme Court. I'll be amazed if he hasn't drove away Minnesotans from the Repub party for years with this bullshiat. Keep it up Coleman! Keep fighting that good fight!

It's only bad if the Democrats do it!

jjorsett 2009-04-18 12:23:30 PM
The WSJ is correct. Having differing standards among counties is a recipe for manipulation and disenfranchisement. I predict the US Supreme Court will ultimately settle this. In Coleman's favor.

Opinion Journal is not the "staid" side of the Wall Street Journal.

randomjsa 2009-04-18 12:27:24 PM
Considering he was the clear winner before the canvasing board got involved and made contradictory rulings when they would favor Franken, 100 votes magically turn up in the back of a car and they're ALL for Franken cast two days before the election, and bias has been proven time and time again?

I hope Senator Coleman does continue the fight instead of letting the Democrats steal another election.

The US Supreme Court does not have jurisdiction. The Constitution specifically gives jurisdiction over Senate elections to the Senate. The Republicans may be able to filibuster an attempt to seat Franken, but Coleman will never be seated.

Also, the Supreme Court is not going to throw out the results of the recount and reverse the election result--unlike 2000, there is no Constitutionally mandated deadline for the election be certified, without which they would have allowed the Florida recount to continue, with different standards. The most they will do is order the same standards applied in all districts, which will result in more ballots being counted. But there are not likely to be enough votes out there for Coleman.

Ayup. I suspect that sometime this summer a runoff will be in the offing, and that Franken will win. The fallout from this may also extend to Pawlenty (however you spell his name, too lazy to look it up) esp if he is seen as kowtowing to the RNC's instincts above and beyond those of his state. I also think that seating Franken will prove a pyrrhic for the Democrats as this sort of fight will serve to invigorate their base.

Verrai 2009-04-18 12:34:17 PM
It's the opinion page. There is no more right-wing section in the country than the WSJ opinion page, not even the Moonies at the Washington Times. (The rest of the paper is just fine.)

That may be true. Poor precincts typically have voting procedures that result in more spoiled ballots than elsewhere. So a ballot cast in an economically depressed or minority area is less likely to be counted. Where's the outrage over this? And why won't the courts intervene in such cases?

63% of Minnesotans think Coleman should give it up already, 59% think Pawlenty should certify him now regardless of what Coleman does. 48% think the GOP is just stalling.

That, I remind you, is a poll of Minnesotans.

I think Randomjsa and Phil "Fail" Herup are crypto-Dems posing as Trolls. Such persistent wharrgarbl requires immense effort with no intellectual payoff unless it's done to force comments that clarify their issues for casual readers... which does their ostensible cause no favor.

That is, unless they actually WANT those causes they espouse to be exposed as the mountains of horse shiat they really are. Hence my theory.

How is this link commie? It's clearly fascist.

Also, I suggest holding a new election. With two new and different candidates. I think we've had about enough of Norm "Turd Sandwich" Coleman and Al "Giant Douche" Franken.

If the Republicans do that, I hope the Democrats do the same for every single Republican who gets elected to the senate next year. If you set the precedent, you better be prepared to live with the precedent.

What has Franken done, in this election, to make him a 'giant douche'?

Phil's from Pennsylvania. Not sure if he's a troll on not, but we actually have a lot of idiots in this state that believe the stuff he posts.

How fiscally conservative of the GOP to continue to waste money on a hopeless cause in order to advance some bizarre agenda.

Good thing they never did that with foreign policy or Obama would inherited a real financial mess.
