God bless our 24 hour ZOMG media culture. As a direct result, I no longer make eye contact with children, let alone talk to them. If one asks me for change of a dollar, I pretend to be deaf. It sucks because I'm told that the laughter of children is one of life's simple joys.

Oh well.

Should be a scary tag. I'll bet when the police showed up the guy didn't even remember being within 20 ft. of that kid.

However East Ridge Police want to commend the child for his quick action in reporting this incident to authorities.

There was no motherfarking incident!

snarkysedai 2009-04-18 11:45:36 AM
OK, so how about some protection from those of us who feel uncomfortable because a kid is near?

Walker [TotalFark] 2009-04-18 01:10:39 PM
Wow. Just wow. Reading the original report it seems the boy just out and out lied about everything.

The report:

EAST RIDGE (WRCB) -- East Ridge police are looking for the suspect who approached a boy (no he didn't) walking to school and tried to coerce into going with him. (no he didn't)

Police were alerted by the principal of Spring Creek Elementary who says a student told her about the incident. When the stranger asked the boy to go with him, (no he didn't) the student refused (no he didn't) and continued to the school. The male suspect followed (no he didn't) until the child made it to the school.

The suspect is described as a black male........

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this explains everything. Obviously the kid was racist.
Black man = scary! call the cops!

Didn't you guys hear? Every male between the ages of 18 and 30 is now automatically considered a child molester.

I've been a stay at home dad for about a year now and I can't even take my kid to the park without getting weird looks from all the mothers there. I just stare at my kid the entire time and try not to make eye contact. I learned my lesson when I stopped someones 5 year old son from jumping about a 20 foot drop and got the "don't talk to my kid" speech. Hey buddy when people ask you how your kid is, you can say ALIVE.

Foxxinnia 2009-04-18 03:08:12 PM

"Police Investigators interviewed the child and the man. The child now says the man had not spoken to him and had not been any closer than 20 to 30 feet. The child did state however the man made him feel uncomfortable. Police now say no crime has been committed."

"The suspect is described as a black male approximately 6' tall, medium build, bald and wearing cutoff shorts and a brown or tan shirt."

Hmmm....

Kids freak me out. I hate being anywhere near them. My beard doesn't help the weird farking looks I get from people when I'm around children either.

ehunter 2009-04-18 03:10:14 PM
Or the media made it up to produce a big bad story. The kid may have really said he was just uncomfortable, media made up the rest. Nah, they'd never do that.

Soccer moms and their snowflakes should be held in walled-off areas from society so the rest of us can go about our normal lives. The concentrated drama inside these camps would probably cause them to implode, however.

Seriously. I know my ass tightens up when I'm at a restaurant or movie and see a mom and six of her twat tots head towards my direction.

EwokHunter 2009-04-18 03:12:06 PM
When I see a child and mother in the park, I quickly close in on the mother to make it aware that I am a perv looking for women, not kids.

It's the only way to be sure.

Black man makes white kid feel uncomfortable, and he ONLY gets detained by police and interrogated?

Hey, for Georgia, that's a big step forward.

Since the cops had to commend the kid for making them hassle a dude, said child must be the mayor's kid. "We commend the twerp for not getting us fired."

I have a 9 year old sister. When I go to pick her up from swim practice or the park I get these looks from the soccer moms who telegraph that they think I'm a molesting rapist. I really, really hate feeling guilty for being a BROTHER.

Last month I was in the toy section at Target. First a couple of mothers made me feel rather uncomfortable for being in the toy section near their children, even though I made no effort to acknowledge her children. When I looked at everything that caught my interest, walked back to where my girlfriend was (the clothing section) and I saw a girl who was apparently lost. At first I remembered those times as a kid when I got lost and felt a bit of empathy for the kid. Then I remembered that she was a little girl and I was a 30 y.o. man who found a lost girl in the toy section. I hope someone helped that little girl out. I wasn't bound to get into that situation.

I picked up a family friend from school there other day. Kid had a note and everything. The SECOND I got out of the car, the principal ran up to me and asked me what I was doing there. I told him and he said, "Well, she will need a note." I said, "She has one, her teacher has it."

Then he had the nerve to tell me to put pants on. What a judgment asshole!

Lovely sexism and excessive fear of nonexistant child molesters we have in society, no?

How about "no child zones", ie besides bars, etc where adults can simply hang out with out any suspicion?

Because without kids there would be no one to grow up into hot, sexy co-eds.

Someone needs to develop a personal in-flight recorder that you attach to yourself and continually shoots video and audio when one is out in public. It may be the only thing that keeps you out of prison when some kid claims you approached and offered candy.

"However East Ridge Police want to commend the child for his quick action in reporting this incident to authorities. Officials want to encourage children to always report suspicious activity to police."

What "incident"? Apparently the act of existing within a 30 foot distance of a child now constitutes an "incident", and "suspicious activity". Jesus H Tapdancing Sideways Christ On A Pogo Stick.

And if you read the article, the kid admits lying about the guy talking to him, trying to entice him to go with the guy, and the guy following him to the school. Basically the kid lied about everything. But hey - "East Ridge Police want to commend the child for his quick action in reporting this incident"

What East Ridge Police should do, is repeatedly slap the little bastard upside the head for lying. And his parents should get a few whacks in, too.

A couple of years ago I was at a bar and sitting at the farking bar was a woman with an infant in a stroller. Being friends with the bartender, I commented about what I saw at the bar. She said, "She's a biatch. She argued that the 21 and over policy discriminated against her and her child, and the manager who is her friend agreed."

My guess is that the kid only told the principal about the scary man and the Principal embellished the story.

The kid should have to issue a public apology to the dude for making up a story. Public, because Everyone in this town should know who the kid and his parents are. You know, so they can commend him some more.

What I'm looking forward to is the lawsuit against the parents because their child's lie resulted in a false arrest. Or maybe the parent's being fined for the false police report.

"My guess is that the kid only told the principal about the scary man and the Principal embellished the story."

Well, maybe. But I think it's just as plausible that the kid was bored, decided to make up a story to get some attention, then when it became apparent that there could be some actual repercussions from lying to police, 'fessed up.

Kids lie. And they're usually not too bright, either.
