Soon, strippers everywhere will have 11 or so new songs to choose from for that one dance per night when they 'express themselves.'

Yes, because anyone who's been sexually assaulted is clearly just "angry about the penis."

Well, just because they have a good reason to be angry about the penis does not mean that they are not angry about the penis.

She's yelling at me, yet playing the piano with her legs parted just so... I'm getting mixed messages

She's making love to the piano, because pianos don't rape.

Mine does. It's a Guatemalan Raping Piano.

Don't press the third pedal.

Penis.

I just came in here to say that.

She's been milking this schtick for almost two decades; isn't it time for her to either get over it or commit suicide?

She is like the old 'devil worshipping' bands; if they truly believed that stuff they would have killed themselves to be with Satan.

Tori is farking useless but as long as we have teenage/20 something girls out there thinking they are the only ones with existential angst, she will keep selling music.

But an ok 'Enjoy the Silence'. Followed by the worst Slayer cover I could ever possibly concieve of.

One letter off...

Nah, she had a kid and like most artists that have kids now she sucks. You can't be angsty and nurturing at the same time so now the music sounds like something a toddler's mom would make. Not even my gay friend who gave me a homemade Tori Amos rosary for my birthday bought "Scarlett's Walk."

funny, I came to type exact same thing. Horrible "teen Spirit" cover, even worse Slayer cover, bordering on sacrilege.. but then... "Enjoy the silence" made me realize just how great the lyrics to that song actually were. Of course, I just went back to listening to the Depeche mode version with a new point of view, but i'll give her that one, regardless

Is Tori Amos stil hetero or did she go full lesbo? Must have been because I can't fathom a man not getting tired of all her shiat.

Bah, she's not still angry about the penis. If she was, her music might still be good. This? Not so much. Generic. Like the last couple albums. No musical complexity. No "rawness" like before. Not sure how else to explain it, but it's missing.

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2009-04-18 06:55:04 PM
Anyone remember about ohh 12 years back when if it wasn't Tori Amos someone was shrieking about how awesome she is, it was Ani DiFranco?

All Apologies 2009-04-18 06:56:47 PM
She has an unmistakable voice, I still have all of her early albums. Seeing her perform in concert is something you'll never forget, I hope she tours again. Best of all, she never was a cornflake girl, and I think we can all be happy about that.

Godzilla [TotalFark] 2009-04-18 07:06:51 PM
I've got the first two (after Y Can't Tori Read), and love them. Saw her in concert for the "Under the Pink" tour, and was amazed.

Her stuff after that lost me. I actually returned the "Pig suckling" album because it was a) defective, b) not nearly as good as the previous two.

Any Tori fans care to point out what I'm missing other than "Little Earthquakes" and "Under the Pink?"

Nothing seems the general consensus... I dunno if its her music because i havent heard the recent stuff myself, but i get the overall vibe that a large portion of her old fans just stopped caring. She's not nearly as talked about as she used to

Last album (American Doll Posse) was good - best since Under the Pink.

From the Choirgirl Hotel
was pretty good, actually (IMHO, of course). I thought it was very well put together, though not as good as the first two albums. But I'll give you Boys for Pele. It wasn't very good. Haven't really paid all that close attention to her work since then.

Tori Amos discusses release of 10th studio album, new video, still angry about the penis Christians

FTFY

I was a big Tori fan since my first viewing of the Little Earthquakes home video. Compelling songwriting, excellent piano chops, and hot as all fark. Plus... redhead! Met many of my close friends including my current GF thru the usenet group rec.music.tori-amos (or rmt-a as we called it). Seen her in concert about 20 times. I also wrote some articles for the now defunct fanzine "Little Blue World" including a phone interview with Tori where we talked a bit about Hammond organs.

However, I started to lose interest around "Scarlet's Walk" and thought "The Beekeeper" was horrible. The phone interview I did with Tori was around the time "Beekeeper" went out, and I remember really throwing her off with the question (and I'm paraphrasing) "So this new album is the most commercial sounding thing you've done. Aren't you afraid of alienating your fanbase?!?" She was taken aback and commented that Epic Records thought that "Under The Pink" was her most commercial record.

"American Doll Posse" was okay but nowhere near the brilliance of her first three albums (or as I call them the holy trinity). From what I heard of AATS (another atrocious album title), my interest will probably continue to wane, and I may not bother to catch her in Chicago this tour. Last Tori show for me was an powerful performance at The Vic two years ago - the one where she did "Me and a Gun" with the band! and i don't think it'll get any better than that.

I don't necessarily think her post '90's work is horrible (except Beekeeper), but I've moved on musically, and I, being a 40-something male, am no longer her target demographic. I do agree that she needs to find a new theme. Please no more albums about the Mary Magdelene!!

Wait..are you saying that at some point in your life you, as a male, were in her target demo?

I would think a normal Tori Amos gig would be sparsely populated by any heterosexual male and those that were there are a) hoping the male-to-female ratio turns into an opportunity to get into some highly impressionable chick's pants or b) hoping to catch Amos flashing the cooter. Neither of which could claim "Tori Amos Target Demographic" status.

Hey, Soul Coughing's Ruby Vroom wouldn't have been the same without that track to sample.

/Also thought those duets with Maynard James Keenan were ok too.

c) One that appreciates how talented and how great of a performer she is.

Believe it or not, not everything is about sex 100% of the time.

Listened to her a couple times, didn't get into it.
Apparently if you're a straight male, there is a good chance you will not like her.
That's what I've been told at least.

Personally, my favorite thing involving Amos is when she met Morrissey, and said something along the lines of "Hey man, great songs!", to which he, in true fashion, responded "Like you would know."

/Doesn't like Tori Amos
/Sides with Morrissey

There are songs on Beekeeper that are really good, despite it being her weakest album if you exlude her cover album. The title track and "Mary's of the Sea" are awesome and no one makes songs that sound like those.
