I may be drunk, but I found that extremely humorous.

Worth a look and a chuckle, but dissolves from memory the instant the clip ends.

Maybe. In 1990.

/no, probably not
//oh, and for a band called "Extreme," they probably could've used the word "Pussies" at the end

I don't know how much more hilarious that could have been. Except maybe if the "actors" were slightly less fat compared to the parts they played. Oh, and adding some humor to it would have helped.

Did like the "Nuno....nnnnnnnuno" call out to Caddyshack, though.

Nuno Bettencourt is an incredible guitar player. Gary Charone is probably gay, but not as gay as two fat dudes making an unfunny parody of a lame video 20 years after the fact.

A song about telling women to "shut up and fark me" is pretty much the gayest thing ever. Extremely gay (get it?)

I love how everyone seems to think that More Than Words represents everything they write.

I saw them last year when they played with King's X and I was really impressed. They get a lot of shiat but they throw a pretty energetic show with some great rock tunes.

"III Sides To Every Story" is an incredible album, BTW. And their new album, "Saudades de Rock", is farking awesome. It's actually one of the only new albums I bought last year.

Ah, so many good memories from high school. The way to a female metalhead's heart (and into her pants) was through a power ballad. It scored even more points if it was "unplugged."

I LOL'd on multiple occasions. Thank you subby, +5 intarwebz to you!

The only thing that Extreme ever did right was the song "Come Out and Play" from the Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure soundtrack. The guitar solo in it is a scorcher.

More Than Words still sucks after all these years.

My thoughts exactly. I don't get the white stripes. Maybe it's the coolness that meg doesn't know music. Or, sorry, the few pieces she can play makes it cool. Or maybe the editing they do in studio? Or maybe the emo that heads the band who looks emo but is a "cool" rocker, not sure. Either way it's along the same lines of quality music.

I readily admit that The White Stripes can be hit-or-miss, but when they're on, they're incredible. As far as Meg goes, I kind of like the punk "only-three-chords" approach (although I know she's a drummer). And Jack White is not only a great guitar player, but a hell of a musical historian as well.

A song played by inept guitarists at campfires?
Ambigously romantic song to serenade your lay-to-be?

Does not compute.

/Bass lines generally sucked in the 90s, IMHO. That definitely includes all that 303 crud.

If your experience with the White Stripes is just what's on the radio (outside Detroit), then I can see where you're coming from. However, if you listen to any of their albums, you'll find it's pretty much all fantastic rock, blues, and garage punk.

/Full disclosure - I'm a huge Stripes fan and a general Detroit music fan.
//But the Stripes aren't for everyone, that's why we have The Raconteurs, and hopefully, The Dead Weather

This. III Sides and Saudades are really, really good (so was Waiting for the Punchline for that matter). But because they had a radio-friendly song that became sickeningly overplayed, their entire body of work is tainted. Pretty sad.

SkeletorOnMars 2009-04-17 01:34:02 PM
It may not do much in defense of Gary being gay, but here's a pretty fantastic Queen medley they did.

Extreme really is an amazingly talented band and it's a shame they often just get labeled as "that More Than Words band"

I was a semi-fan of the White Stripes for a while but became a big fan once I saw Under Blackpool Lights. Everyone should do themselves a favor and look it up on youtube, it's awesome.

Dude check out III Sides to Every Story. Amazing album, top to bottom.

So, what exactly is wrong with More Than Words? I think the harmony vocals on that song are some of the best of the era, and certainly for that genre. Sure it's sappy and overplayed, but does that necessarily make it a bad song?

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2009-04-17 02:46:19 PM
Extreme was technically talented, but they had no idea how to make a good song in the studio.

They are the definition of "over produced." They make the arrangements and studio excess on albums by Garbage seem stripped-down and bare.

Madbassist1 [TotalFark] 2009-04-17 02:51:13 PM
I always liked "Hole-Hearted" better.

Well... it was a ballad slipped onto an album marketed as a metal album. The metal songs were sold as the singles, and after the band getting little recognition for their talents as rock artists (and about 8 months of diminishing returns), they dropped this turd onto MTV as a last ditch effort of recouping some money.

It annoyed everybody who enjoyed the modest initial success of the album because soccer moms & shiat started listening to it en masse. Its same feeling you get when a rock band comes on stage here in pittsburgh and the dumbass fans start shouting "here we go steelers" instead of something band related...

So you have a problem with how the song was marketed, despite the fact that every single hard rock band from this era used the same formula (in your face rock song, better in your face rock song, power ballad), and not with the song itself? Why is it a turd? If it were a duet by Eric Clapton and Elton John from Clapton Unplugged, would it be a better song?

I can see your point for their earlier stuff. "Waiting for the Punchline" and "Saudades" avoid that problem. Pretty stripped down rock.

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2009-04-17 05:11:26 PM
Extreme is a great example of what can happen to a band when the record label decides what to release as singles. More Than Words was not even close to representative of their usual stuff. And the record label really farked them having it as a single.

Madbassist1: I always liked "Hole-Hearted" better.

Ditto, it's a much much better song, and surprise, a lot closer to Extreme's usual stuff.

chemrebel: The way to a female metalhead's heart (and into her pants) was through a power ballad.

There is no power in this ballad.

A true power ballad starts with acoustic guitar or piano and has the electric guitar and drums coming in at verse two with the fill "BUMP bump budda bump crassssshhhh".

TheRevHairless 2009-04-17 05:46:51 PM
I saw Extreme back in the day, with Alice in Chains opening ( it was thier first tour). Was an amazing show. Loved their cover of " Play that funky music whiteboy"
