I think that's what Republicans were hoping with Jesus appointing Bush to the Presidency. Yeah. That's kind of what we are trying to move away from. All the 'praying' and 'trusting in God' stuff. We're expecting Obama to do some actual work. Over the course of years.

So everything is ok. Don't worry your pretty little head over it Ms. Hasselbeck.

pwhp_67 2009-04-16 05:59:06 PM
Wow. I knew the next 4 years were going to be fun but I really never in my wildest dreams thought that the Republicans would so completely lose their shiat during the first 100 days.

This is going to be beyond awesome...

I was listening to Rush yesterday, and. . .man, the wackaloons are not taking this very well. I sure hope Rush, Beck, Coulter, Hannity &co. keep on doing what they're doing. Can you imagine a completely Dworkinized Republican party in 2012?

:)

Hell no. Naomi Klein=Toufutti Klien=The Nation The Nation is a weekly[1] United States periodical devoted to politics and culture, self-described as "the flagship of the left."[. But don't let that stop the Obamatrons on Fark from calling her Judas.

Yeah, Democrats do seem fond of making people into heroes and then tossing them under the bus.

You can be such a cockbag. She was tolerated because of her loss and then she went insane and was ignored.

Grow up.

I fully respect that he isn't running around trying to make everybody happy. He is trying to actually fix a few things, and fixing something usually pisses somebody off.

They'll get over it.

NewportBarGuy: She was tolerated because of her loss and then she went insane and was ignored.

No she was always insane, right from Day 1, and I happen to remember thinking that from the first time I saw her interviewed.

Trouble was, she was embraced by the Dems as a political tool and then tossed aside when she became inconvenient. Be happy to dig up a few of the early Sheehan threads that appeared on here where the lefties gleefully predicted she would be the sort of honest, grassroots persona that would lead to Bush's impeachment.

I grant that. A lot of it was that they saw her as a useful tool because she was someone who lost her son in the war, and she had similar political views. She was used by a side to further their cause.

The other side did the same damn thing. Reading a letter from a dead Marine saying to carry on the fight in his name.

There is plenty of shiat on both sides and you know that.

I sympathized with her and I thought her camping outside Bush's ranch was a novel idea of bringing attention to her cause.

But then she wouldn't. shut. up. later on when her thing had played itself out. She made herself out to be this great activist, and you know what? She wasn't a great activist, she wasn't a very good speaker, and she was a little crazy to boot. Yes, I'm sure she was pushed along by elements of the left, but she was the left's Joe the Plumber.

No, she got 'tossed aside' when she started making really crazy comments. Unlike the wingnut loons that the GOP embrace even more the crazier they get.

And the myth1 of the Obama adorer is a creation of the Right. Basically a continuation of the "Celebrity" commercial.

I'm just glad we have an educated intelligent, and open-minded person in charge.

1. Ok, it's not a myth. There are some people completely nuts over the guy. My wife, for instance.

I don't know many Obama supporters who ever believed he was going to save the world. I do know a number of overly pessimistic-with-life Obama detractors who like calling him the Messiah and blame the past eight years of failures on him now that he is President.

Well, according to some stuff I was reading on the Internet today, neither is Obama.

Ooh, this is another one of those word-search thingies!

Whatever the last straw, a growing number of Obama enthusiasts are starting to entertain the possibility that their man is not, in fact, going to save the world if we all just hope really hard.

This kind of fabricateed, cartoonish portrayal is as transparent and false no matter who presents it. If the author genuinely expected Obama to fast-track some genuinely leftist, progressive agenda, she was just as deluded as the freaks who thought he was a foreign-born secret muslin.

But, I see the author is being at least somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

This is a good thing. If the superfan culture that brought Obama to power is going to transform itself into an independent political movement, one fierce enough to produce programs capable of meeting the current crises, we are all going to have to stop hoping and start demanding.

Yeah. What kind of loon would write things like this?

To be fair, subby, the real solution is a Republican and Conservative Holocaust. Sadly, Hitler ruined the real solutions to our current problems.

Only with the total removal of the right wing will society be able to progress.

Bloody William 2009-04-16 08:08:32 PM
I like Klein. I disagree with her on this, but I see her point. Plenty of liberals are a bit disappointed with Obama, probably because they had high hopes and were expecting no compromises. Hell, I haven't been happy with everything he's done.

However, I'm disappointed that she went the overly facile route of hope-change wordplay. She kept it thematically consistent and well-structured, but it just seemed like too easy a joke, something Jon Stewart would toss off as an intro to a piece on Obama, not base an entire story around. However, it was better than most of the hope-change mockery right-wingers engage in. Solid execution, if I disagree with the style approach.

Plenty of liberals were very hopeful for Obama, and after eight years of Bush I think many of us did indeed pin ideas of country-changing, paradigm-shifting work on him. We're coming down from that and accepting that he's, gasp, a politician. One who generally aligns with our political beliefs, but still a part of the system, and as such he won't be perfect, and will compromise.

Dupa [TotalFark] 2009-04-16 08:30:24 PM
I have another word for the author's lexicon, Hopo-erotic: where Obama fans sit around and circle jerk to his every action, while flogging anyone with a dissenting opinion.

In three months President Obama has:

Closed Guantanamo Bay
Ended the global gag rule
Brought science back to the country
Kick started the economy
Passed a budget that will cut our deficit in half in 10 years
Increased our nation's standing in the world
Shed light on the abuses of the CIA to make sure they never ever happen again.

Oh, and he bought a puppy. He hasn't bought a puppy for *me* yet, so I guess I should be "disappointed".

In 8 years George Bush cleared some brush and gave Africa a bunch of money. That's honestly the only good things I can think of.
